Newcomers AppGameKit Corner / Making a 3D object not plain white

I'm not sure what the exact term is, so I'll just describe the issue. I made a model in FreeCAD, exported it as a mesh object, and added it to my AppGameKit game. It shows up, but is white and has no lighting. Turning on the sun light in AppGameKit had no effect, neither did turning on shader 0.

I want the object to be yellow and show its 3D-ness. What do I need to do?

Pics, or it didn't happen =)

Maybe the normals are not exported correctly, maybe it is code.
If shadey's good code doesn't help you, upload an example model and I will take a look.
