perhaps because JavaScript works on every OS with a broswer that supports it, considering
Mozilla - Linux / Irix
Internet Explorer - Windows
Safari - MacOS
I'm also using Java 1.3.1 over 1.4.1 for the same reasons.
JavaScript unlike PHP is also ALOT LESS server intensive, not so much for bandwidth but updating page speeds, script access (remember JavaScript is OO allowing instant access of any area rather than Procedural), database access is also based on single calls from the End Users system rather than the online script.
i'd use JScript, however it isn't supported by anything other than IE and Safari, else trust me i'd be using that in a heartbeat.
not to mention i can't stand many of the other language programming, php/cgi/perl ... and i have even less knowlage in them.
aleast with JavaScript, i already know what Java is capable of and i'm now just having to figure out the limitations to work around.
might love Microsoft software, but i'm not an idiot; i know what my server has and i know what my markets have. have been trying to do as much of my homework on my own as possible, but my search for JavaScript's documentation keeps comming up blank!
and aruging about why i want to use something doesn't help me find it any quicker.
