Hey guys,

I'm a little bit confused about this thread I just stumbled on:

https://forum.thegamecreators.com/thread/192140

Is it really true that I don't need to worry about mp3 licensing when using AppGameKit tier 1, or has that changed over the years? The thread mentioned dates back to 2011...
I've always thought that you MUST pay the fee as soon as you reach the 5000 sold units threshold?
If not, I don't see any reason to use *.wav or *.ogg files anymore...

Cheers,
PSY

mp3 has licencing issues

Ogg and MP4A has none.

Best use a converter for mp3/mp4 to Ogg, cause these two have been deprecated anyway in AppGameKit I believe

So, as long as the music mp3/mp4 has no licencing attached to them which has must DO's and Donts on them then suppose that's fine.

Public Domain music and attribution is best ones

Please read to give yourself the idea of mp3/mp4 formats - http://mp3licensing.com/help/developers.html

Good music for free I have found this to be a good one for funky music and sounds https://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/music.html, please mention the author of the music
in your game credits - in this case its Kevin MacLeod

eg credit info to give
"Laser Groove" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)

Hope this helps

Absolutely agree. Keep away from MP3 unless you want to pay (it's very easy to hit 5000 downloads). Use ogg for your music files. Use uncompressed pcm wav for sound effects (far less processing overhead than ogg I suspect).

That's what I thought...

THANKS ALOT GUYS! Very much appreciated!

@Damon: Nice music and sounds on that page you linked...thanks! I'll definitely use some of them for my projects !!

I've been using OGG for music and sounds...gonna use it for music only from now on as CJB suggests, had some strange issues with looped ogg sound effects.

Cheers,
PSY
