Hey guys i have been getting back into the grove of writing a few programs and as always i keep running into the same problem.
I purchase all my media through certain graphics retailers and am always ending up needing to edit them.
I have purchased Paint Shop Pro Ultimate (Dont really like it, and it wont open .psd files) Started using gimp and it is wonderful besides it cannot edit PSD Text Layers.(Unless i just dont know how)
So as complicated as Adobe Photo has made their products, I am having trouble deciding what is their best software to edit graphics bought in the form of a .PSD file.
As expensive as they are i dont want to make the mistake of buying the wrong product. Also if someone knows a trick to gimp and .PSD text layers i would be glad to hear it.

I have found this website with cheap adobe products. https://agsoftwarestore.com/

If anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated!!!

Thanks in advance!

paint.net has a psd plugin. It's also FREE! I haven't tried it though.

I just downloaded Paint.net and installed the photo shop plugin. From as far as i could tell it would not recognize the text layer to let you edit text. (After a quick google search forum users of Paint.net it cannot be done.)

It looks like i just need to go ahead and purchase Photo Shop, I just dont know which one to get there are so many....

Adobe PhotoShop Elements...
Adobe PhotoShop LightRoom...
Adobe Photoshop Cs6....
and so many more

If Adobe Photoshop Cs6 would work, i have found it for $20 and is very affordable.

I think i may just go ahead and try this offer...https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/photography.html?promoid=PLHRQHCT&mv=other going to try out the trial and go for it...any tips before i jump off the deep end?

Hi CP, i recommend Photoshop CS6. It's indeed a little expensive, but i couldn't find so far anything better. Also, there are plenty of free plug-ins on the web to use with it. $20 sounds a good offer!

Thanks for your opinion Richard! What is the difference between the CS6 and the current Photography plan offered by the creative cloud for $10 a month? The photography plans seems to comes with so much to offer.

The Difference between PhotoShop CS6 and PhotoShop CC is with the License. CS6 is a life long License and CC is by rent. If you don't pay, you can't use it anymore. Photoshop CS6 is more like AGK2.
If you can, get CS6 Extended, it can also handle 3D stuff. But don't let you foul with cheap prices. The website you "ag..." can't be serious.

But I can tell you, there is no other Software than Photoshop that can do what Photoshop can do. It is like Microsoft Office and other Offices. They can do most of the things, but with file converting, and layers, and plugins, the other software handles often somethings wrong and will cost you a lot of time.

I don't know, if you need Photoshop CC with monthly payment. If you are a student / teacher, you will get it for ~ 20,- something per month, but you have to rent it for 12 month, so you are at 120,-

If you want an advice ... get the Master Collection CS6. No compromise. No monthly payment.

PhotoShop CS6 Extend is the real PhotoShop, which is the last not CC (for rent) version
Lightroom is only for some color-correction
Elements can't use 3D Objects in the way the Extended Version can do and also some of the PlugIns are not working. I don't know if Elemnts can handle all in 64 Bit, CS6 is native 64 Bit (32 Bit version included, but can't use as much as RAM)

I tried GIMP, and I tried Paint.NET. For some graphics they a great, also PhotoLine and Serif PhotoPlus, PaintShop Pro X... but at the End, you have to use Photoshop if you are working with others. I was sad abut Corel buying Ulead and not supporting PhotoImpact anymore, but that's the way it is.

Also PhotoShop works best with all Wacom products. And if you ever have to switch to macOS, Photoshop is also there, if you want to.

Maybe you can search for PhotoShop CS2, maybe there is a *download* somewhere. Adobe shutted down the Activation-Server long time ago and so they had to make it work without Activation.

Hi

I have bought my photoshop version (cs5) in internet, on a site named priceminister. It was about 100 or 200€ if I remember. Sometimes, you can find photoshop on ebay too or other site like that.
Photoshop is great to create 2D (interface, menu, button), vectoriel character & background. But not very good for animation (even if you can do animation with photoshop).

Ok. This is a little left field. A friend of mine runs this blog http://www.2dgameartguru.com/
He has taught me everything i know about graphics.
The tools he uses are all free, the instruction is pretty straight forward and the results are cool.

Could you please tell me where I can buy an official license of CS6 or CS6 Extended?

There are some good free tools too :
- mypaint (to paint, it's top )
- artweaver : to draw and paint
- inkscape : vecto drawing
- spriter & spine (free version) : to create animation with sprite.

You can find other drawing / vector softwares on internet :

Someone mentioned Affinity Photo. You might also want to check Affinity Designer depending on what is your definition of image editing (photo vs drawing)..
