Hey folks,

I just released Space Haze on Google Play.
It's my first game written in AGK2 Tier 1.

You can get it here: Space Haze on Google Play

Space Haze kind of a remake of Space Zap, which was released by Midway back in 1980 --> Space Zap
GFX and SFX are rather retro-ish, and so is the gameplay

Space Haze features 17 Google Play Achievements and the Leaderboard. It's also free - just an interstitial popping up @ Game Over

Here are some screens:

Some info on the difficulty level:
Each wave, the fighter spawn rate increases, but the time between spawns never drops under 0.5 seconds
Each wave, the fighter fire rate increases, but the time between shots never drops under 1.0 seconds
Each wave, the fighter projectile speed increases, but never gets higher than 0.625
Each wave, the fighter squad size increases
Each wave, the probability that a fighter fires a shot right after spawn increases
At wave 5, 10, 15 and 20, the fighter spawn probability and the boss move speed increases

Assets:
Most of the graphics come from Giant Asset Pack 1 and 2.
All music pieces were made by ERIC MATYAS. He's got a homepage with tons of great stuff --> http://soundimage.org/
Sound effects were made by JUHANI JUNKALA

Rules:
Destroying a fighter gives 1000 points
Destroying a boss gives 10000 points
Not hitting anything results in 100 points taken from the score

I highly recommend playing the game @ 60 FPS ( default setting ) !

Any feedback is welcome !!
If you like the game, please leave a positive rating on Google Play. Thanks

Enjoy,
PSY

Judging from the pictures looks nice. Is it possible to give a download link for PC?

Haven't completely ported it to Windows, need to do a few adjustments for that.
Will port it to Windows and iOS asap, though

Nice game PSY, I just played it on a Nexus 9, some points;

- GAME OVER text was off the edges of the screen (the G and R)
- I didn't see any achievements light up after playing a session (I did get to wave 16)

The game play is slow to build up and then gets very difficult around wavs 14-16. And that rotating ship at the end of wave started to bomb me, didn't expect that.
Could you give a bonus if you shoot the end of level enemy quickly?

Great use of the graphics from the Giant asset pack!

Thanks guys, appreciated

@Rick

GAME OVER
I'm using the percentage based approach, with a custom font. The GAME OVER font size is 23.
Goes well with a aspect ratio of 16:9. The Nexus 9 features a 4:3 aspect ratio, right? I guess the font is too big for that ratio.
I'll fix it with the next update!

Achievements
This happens when a user plays the game for the first time.
The Game Center Login / sync process seems to take some time, and submitting achievements doesn't work until some time has passed, although GetGameCenterLoggedIn() returns 1 at this point.
If you clear the app's cache and data and play again, everything should be ok.
I don't know how to fix that issue, though. Maybe I'll just upload every saved achievement on the second run of the game...

Boss ship
Yeah, the boss at the end of each wave circles the space station, and turns suicidal at some point by going on collision course
I like the bonus idea. Gonna add that for the next update. Thanks !!

Gameplay
Gonna have a look at the difficulty curve. Thanks !!

Hey all,

just uploading a small update. Should be available in about 1 hour.

Fixes:

GAME OVER font size now depends on device aspect ratio - Thanks Rick
Small performance boost
Rare bug fixed where game didn't resume correctly after having been suspended during wave transition - Thanks Quincy
At first game launch, achievements were sometimes not correctly uploaded due to Game Center Sync issues. Although GetGameCenterLoggedIn() returned 1, the sync/login process was not complete. Fixed that by uploading all unlocked achievements again at GAME OVER - Thanks Rick and others

There will be another patch soon which will tweak the boss fight and the difficulty curve!

Stay tuned and enjoy,
PSY

Downloaded and played "Space Haze", nice game! Good graphics and sound, and solid gameplay. And the menu interface is solid too.

For some reason, I could not find it through Google Play's search. I had to copy the URL to land directly on the download page. It did not show in Google Play's search results at all, or if it did then it was buried under screens of other titles. I'm not sure why it didn't show in the search results.

Also, my phone's navigation bar stays in the forefront after the game is launched, which unfortunately causes one of the game's buttons to become inaccessable during gameplay. I don't know if this is an AppGameKit Android issue or just an issue with my particular model of phone. Maybe I need to upgrade my phone's Android OS version?

Is Space Haze available for Windows and/or HTML5 in addition to Android? Thanks!

Hey GemGames,

thank you, I'm glad you like it.
We used to play the original Space Zap at a friend's place on an emulator running inside an original arcade cabinet
I noticed some time ago that the app can't be found in the Play Store, but I thought that was connected to the API updates, and it would eventually show up.
I just sent a mail to Google support about the issue.

After the issue is resolved, I can try and add SetImmersiveMode(1). That will possibly fix the issue with your nav bar.

There is no Windows or HTML5 version, but I've always wanted to do that...should be a nice mini project for winter times

Cheers,
PSY

Google reply:

When searching on Google Play, app search works across titles, publisher names, and app descriptions. It's not easy to refine the search results appropriately when it comes to generic words that may also happen to be brand names or titles. For example, when a user searches for "Color Game,” it's difficult to tell if the user is searching for an app named "Color Game" or for a game about colors. Because of this, we cannot guarantee that every app will display in search results for its name.

Please note, we show a limited number of search results in Google Play to ensure the best user experience. If your app's search rank for a specific term is too low, your app will not display in results. On the other hand, your app is always available by direct link (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.psylabs.spacehaze), which you can share with users as you actively market your app.

Furthermore, you can search "Space Haze" (with quotes) or pname:com.psylabs.spacehazeat play.google.com/store/apps to find the app. This is a tip that helps you verify your app is correctly included in the search index.

Another option is to promote your app with a paid Google Ads campaign. To learn more about promoting your app through ads, please reach out to Google Ads.

If there are no other concerns, I’ll be closing the case, and if you have further questions or clarification about the Play Console, please don’t hesitate to respond to this email and I will gladly assist you.

(edit) I tried and searched "Space Haze" with quotes, and it showed up

That's a good search tip to know about in the Google Play Store especially when searching for specific titles.
