Wings3D is one of the better Free 3D modellers, it doesn't export to X but it does export to 3DS which you can use in DBPro (or use a small converter if you really want to have it as an X model)

Theres are a few examples in the code base that could be put together to make a 3D modeler w/ a DirectX .X exporter. But its not a complete one. Theres also one in Code Snippets (somewhere).

Other than that, VanB and I are working on our own. Hopefully we can both finish it (well, hopefully VanB can finish his, mine probably wont be that great).

Mattman was working on one, but gave it up due to code deletion (if I'm correct).

Yeah, Elleomeas right, Wings3D is the best free modeler I've seen. You can also use JTEdit to convert the exported .3ds to .X (which will load perfectly in all versions of Dark Basic, but maybe not 5.2, havent risked downloading it yet).

You can get JTEdit at:

Depending on your needs, DoGA CGA or Metasequoia will do the trick. For game modelling, all versions of DoGA are fully functional.

DoGA L1,L2,L3 http://www.doga.co.jp/english
Metasequoia http://www21.ocn.ne.jp/~mizno/main_e.html
(I suggest v2.1 since it very difficult to register it.)
