Here are two shots of the open-source Matrix Editor I've made, it saves to a special format (usually 20kb each file) that contains all information that my game DarkTimes need to create a world, place units and texture them.

Ive made v1.2 now, it can make hills and equalize the matrix.
Btw, I've optimized the program now, and notice the FPS difference, 20 FPS!

Looks good, only your trees look like cardboard cut-outs.

To make them look really cool, make a trunk and use 3 or four cones, or rather cones with the circle missing from the base, and put them from top to bottom (of the trunk) going from small to big. Texture them with a semi-transparent leaves texture just a load of blobs on a transparent background, set the texture properties to not draw the black background so its transparent and there you go.

Okay, here's a screenshot of version 1.5

The mapfiles are still 20/21kb and store everything!

New:
-Water
-Lightning (sun, etc)
-Smaller Mapfiles

its looking great! i've got a suggestion though, try and implement texture blending so the textures don't contrast so much

Okay ive made some progress with texture blending, I will upload a screenie when i've finished it. (Btw, the blending technique I use is 0% quality loss and 100% blending )

You mean the texture blending? Its simple, grab the textures from a matrix bmp, and blend them in all possible ways (4 different textures requires a ~1200x~1000 bitmap/jpeg)

Btw, ALL MY PROGRAMS / GAMES WILL STAY FREE

here's a screenie with the new updated GUI!

If you want to make a matrix for a racegame, then the N and M button may be usefull, they make slopes (depending with one you've selected)



Here's a list of options:
A - Raise Height of a single point
C - Crater
E - Equalize
F - Fill
G - Remove an object
H - Hill / Mountain
K - Piramid Up
L - Piramid Down
M - Slope
N - Slope
P - Place Object
R - Randomise (Smooth Hills)
S - Raise 4 points (tile)
T - Texture Tile
U - River
V - Valley
W - WireFrame On/Off
X - Lower 4 points (tile)
Y - Lake
Z - Lower point

Hotspots and waypoints are supported, you can store unlimited amounts of them in a MVS file.

Btw, ive made a little compression for the MVS file, its now 12KB (0 objects, 0 hotspots and 0 waypoints) the size will never go beyond 1MB, even in a rich decorated map.

Btw, you can use the minimap to move around. In last screenshot you can see a black square with a white dot on it, thats the minimap

thats abit worrying really, as some graphics cards won't be able to handle an image that large, you may have to scale down the image after getting the blending done.
