Oh man.

I saw it last night, and I've gotta say, it was AMAZING. I'd go far enough to say it tied with the original Matrix for my favorite movie of all time. Everything about it was just so powerful: the acting, the dialog, the battles. There were times where I'd snap out of it and realize that I was still just sitting in a theatre and not actually on Middle Earth watching this happen.

For those of you who haven't seen it, you have to, it is a must for anyone!

Must for anyone, cash cow from everyone... with two DVD editions and a massively hyped theatre release across the globe, who can avoid watching it ?

thats why I no longer go to theaters for movies-freaks ruining it for everyone around them. To avoid jail-time, for getting up and putting some idiot thru a wall, I just wait for dvd to come out. It costs <= going to the movie, you're in comfort of own home, no idiots around, you can eat, drink favorite beverages, pause, pee, fart, watch movie in underwear --whatever. Oh yeah, on a nice 32" Sony Wega with component video dvd... only thing better would be a bigger screen but the 32" is brand new so I won't be on market until sometime down the road.

The thing you do is what about 2 weeks. Then go to the movies
and sit with old people. no noise, perfect time to see the movie you
wonted to see.

slayer, i had the same problem. I guess when you go on opening night everyone there is a huge dork. people must have clapped 15 times during the movie. Irritating as hell. good movie though. The ending was a little different than the book but it woould have taken an extra 30 mins to add the rest. And my ass was already hurting from sitting too long.

yes, the lord of the rings series really does blend computer graphics really well. Unlike the new Star wars which looks completely fake...

it came out in the uk on wednesday and i got front row tickets (that was all that was left) and basically in the film a big rock from a catapalt kill all the fellowship(gandalf,aragon,legolas,gimli,frodo,sa,merry,pippin)
and sauron gets the ring.


I bet you didnt see that twist coming

Saw it last night.. bloody great film. I mean, you know what's going to happen, but they still do it so well. Am going back to see it again tonight with some other friends

I loved the end sequence with the Annie Lennox song and the paintings of the actors.

Saw it last night too. It was Stunning!

It really was a feast for the eye, unlike the last Matrix film though, there was substance to it. All the actors were brilliant too, and you did feel for the characters.


What I hadn't realised was that Hugo Weaving is in both LOTR and The Matrix!

Apart from a very brief sequence with Legolas, it was quite difficult to spot where the reality stopped and the CG started. A lot of scenes seem to have heavy post processing done to them - close ups of characters faces often give them a magical "sheen".

My only criticism is that I think that some of the end sequences should have been cut, I think that the film should have ended when the camera zooms back after Aragorn and the whole congregation bow to the hobbits - rather than ending on a close up of a door. No-one in my family agreed though

Yea, it did drag a little at the end. Some un-needed scenes could have been cut.

Anyway, I loved all 3 of the movies, and ROTK will be added to my DVD collection.(Already have Fellowship and Two Towers special edition dvd's)



A book? I hate book. Book is stupid.

two questions cause i havent read the books, how does frodo lose his finger and how does theoden die, the guy at games workshop told me to find out fromt eh movie and my girlfriend wouldnt tell me.

Theodan was attacked by the Lord of the Nazgul, his daughter saves him but he's beyond repair

I liked all the end parts - it was the "calming down" after the build-up of the adventure. Although it's not true to the book at all and they used a LOT of creative license there.

Favourite part - has to be when all the back-up troops arrive and stampede the orcs, it was just a massive rush, cutting them all down in their path. Fantastic. Then the elephants appear and the tables turn Oh and the ghost warriors were pretty spectacular too.

I like how it ends with the door.
It shows that life has been returned completely to normal and isn't in some hyped-up dramatic state.
The door is also reminisant of The Ring (round and yellow). Maybe the director was making sure that the ring was the last thing in the film, even though it couldn't have been.


Just out off interest, how many polys is the model for Gollum? I guess about 500,000. I could be way off though.

Models for movies don't use polygons unless I'm mistaken, they use some other form of surface which the renderers always make sure is curved perfectly down to the pixel.

yeah apperently sauroman and wormtongue (in the book) escape and invade hobbition so it could have been a lot longer. but it really is a cliffhanger when frodo and sam are at mnt doom!!!!
