So I want to release my game Rush to Adventure game on PC, Mac and Linux through Steam.

PC is easy and from what I understand it I can run Linux through VirtuialBox or through a USB drive.

But what do I need to make a distributable game for Mac? I have access to a place with some iMacs I can use.

For MacOS you will have to subscribe to the Apple developer account for MacOS (different from iOS) to then codesign your game so that it is not blocked by MacOS by default (if you distribute your game via the MacOS AppStore it's different I guess)....

Thanks

Can I do that in AppGameKit or do I need something like XCode?

So, the Apple developer web page is a bit unclear. Do I really need to apply to the Apple Developer Program or would it be fine with just the Apple ID?

Never considered the Mac App Store. How well used is that on Mac?

I always found that the Mac store did better than iPhone/Ipad to be honest, more downloads for paid apps.
It might be as there is not as much released on there so you are noticed more??

It was a bit of a headache at first trying to sort it out not knowing what I was doing using Xcode, however once you get used to it, it is ok.
I did a bit of a tutorial here a while back but it should still be valid to get the Tier 1 game onto the Mac store.

Not sure about getting the Mac version on the steam page though? Never done that and would be interesting to know if you find out.

Thanks SpecTre That looks like a lot of work...

Do you need the developer license (Apple Developer Program)? Or can you do it without?

You need to pay Apple the developer license to release on their stores but the £80 gets you release on both iOS and MacOS stores which is quite good. Not sure about for releasing Mac game on Steam though to be honest.

[EDIT]
The good thing on the road map for AppGameKit though is that they said they will be introducing an option to build for Mac from the IDE like iOS apps which would be good and save a lot of messing around

Their D-U-N-S Number checker didn't want to accept my email adress so I filled out their support form.

I have a feeling that the macOS build is going to take a week or two for the paperwork. So that won't make it in time for my release.

No it will take a week or two at least for them to get it authorised and up and running.
Yes Apple now let you release on iOS and MacOS using same account

I guess it will take as long as it takes and I will release on PC first.

@ SpecTre - the original thread with your PDF is locked but I just want to say thanks for setting all that out, I could never have figured all that out and I'll be putting it to use in a few weeks.

@Supertino, I created that after a couple of weeks of pulling my hair out and getting really frustrated with Apple. Glad it's of good use and good luck with your project
