What codec is the video using? I've recently discovered that an MPEG-1/2 video would cause a freeze when played back with the new method, but converting it to h264 should work. The old method had very poor support for h264, which is a much more common format these days, but I'll see if there is anything we can do.

I used h264 codec and test it with .wmv video format, but both had problem.

The Windows Media Foundation requires - windows media player as a pre-requisite - check if you have it installed.

In a number of territories - EU most commonly - Microsoft was forced to release a version of Windows 7 - normally called an N version - that does not contain Windows Media Player or Internet Explorer.

You need to manually install the latest version of windows media player for those platforms.

I couldn't figure out what is causing the crash so I've reverted Windows 7 and below to using DirectShow, although this means you'll have to deal with codecs again at least it has the potential to work.

It would be neat to be able to choose between direct show and other types, just in case.
