Hello Mr. Alistair,

I have bought your bookS and I am Thankful but...

I would like a book(
"agk 2 : 3d fun for noobies"
or
"AppGameKit Official Tutorial Guide Vol 3" )
for people who need more hand holding(me).

I would like you to use "original solder.x" that comes with the 3d / bones demo and do stuff with that guy so I can understand better how to use agk/3d.

Can you demos/chapters on things like putting the gun in the guys hand.
Can you demos/chapters on things like putting a different gun like a 357.
Can you demos/chapters on things like giving him a sword.
Can you demos/chapters on things like giving him a five inch knife.
Can you demos/chapters on things like him being able to throw the knife.
Can you demos/chapters on adding a hat to the guy's head.
Can you demos/chapters on things attaching a small unit patch on his shoulder.
Can you demos/chapters on adding a ragdoll to the guy.
Can you demos/chapters on using physics to move the guy and then switch to ragdoll fall when his health is zero.
Can you demos/chapters on him running on a terrain.
Can you demos/chapters on making a new character/guy in blender3d and getting him in the agk3d and him using the gun and hat etc.

^ Do a book like that and I would buy it too. Thanks !

This has been demo'd in the forums only last week!

Quote: "Can you demos/chapters on things like putting a different gun like a 357.
Can you demos/chapters on things like giving him a sword.
Can you demos/chapters on things like giving him a five inch knife."

All the same thing, all have the same answer as above.

Quote: "Can you demos/chapters on things like him being able to throw the knife."

This requires animations, but someone asked about physics and bullets. It could be adapted to use knives instead.

Quote: "Can you demos/chapters on adding a hat to the guy's head."

Same answer as question 1. (And 2, and 3 and 4!)

Quote: "Can you demos/chapters on things attaching a small unit patch on his shoulder."

Change the texture.

Quote: "Can you demos/chapters on adding a ragdoll to the guy."

Look at the physics demos stickied to the top of the forum.

Quote: "Can you demos/chapters on using physics to move the guy and then switch to ragdoll fall when his health is zero."

Same as above.

Quote: "Can you demos/chapters on him running on a terrain."

Also as above.

Quote: "Can you demos/chapters on making a new character/guy in blender3d and getting him in the agk3d and him using the gun and hat etc."

Modelling is beyond the scope of AGK. AppGameKit is a programming language, if you want modelling help, i'd suggest a modelling forum. Perhaps look at blender videos in YouTube. As for getting the model in AppGameKit, see the answer above.

I disagree

Searching the forums is very helpful and handy.

However, having to sift through the threads that do not have the answer you are looking for can eat away your time.

Having valid answers to your questions organized so that you can go directly to it and even find and learn more than you were looking for is a real time saver.

Time is money (or at least, development opportunities), so the time saved is well worth the cost of the book.

It comes down to whether you want to spend most of your time searching for answers to your questions, or spend it making games.

Saying 'who needs a book" is like saying "who needs knowledge"... everyone!

I think looking ahead to the next volume is a good idea, but I do not have any suggestions for chapters or topics yet.

I think beginning programmers can not only gain a lot of knowledge about AppGameKit in these books, but also about computer programming in general.

They are an excellent resource for beginners and experienced programmers, in my opinion.

I don't believe the "Book is stupid" comment was meant to be taken seriously.
It is a throwback to a post from around 10 years ago that did the local forum equivalent of 'going viral'

Of course, learning Blender is not just something which can be added to an AGK2 manual as an aside! But still, I think it would be nice with a bit of info on how to export stuff from Blender and into AGK2. What filetype to export to, how to get the proportions right, XYZ axis, stuff like that. The 2nd tutorial guide seems to cover every 3D aspect except this, actually getting your 3D stuff into AGK2.

This is correct. I actually still have the thread saved and read it often!
