Would it be theoretically possible to implement volume shadows for the Windows platform, so point lights could be used for shadow casting, too?

Without tricks it's currently not possible to create point-light shadows.
As said in several threads we need some kind of viewpoint-independent-environment-mapping like cube-mapping to implement proper point-light shadows.
But theoretically they are possible in AGK: you still can create your own environment-mapping but that will probably be very performance heavy on top of the depth comparisons for the shadows.

Spotlights are much easier.

Thank you for the clarification.

I'd go with spotlights, but I can only get shadows from 1 light source, aka the sun, right?

Gonna put the project on ice then, at least until I know whether point or spot light shadows will be implemented in the future or not
