Nah think it might be just your code or 9Ex itself, please read this thread and see if that helps. 9Ex is still in dev so as a newcomer you might wish to try the original version if too many issues crop up for you. A user made this install fairly straight forward, you download his framework BUT all that you need is the DBPro folder that is within that download - it contains the original version updated to what is considered a stable update by many as well as the 9Ex version separately. You can find details here.
