Is there a way to fade objects out like the old alpha fades?

I tried SetObjectColor but that just fluffs diffuse.

Yeah Markus got it, you need to turn on alpha transparency first.

Tweens are handy for fading effects. Check out setteewnobjectalpha() command.

SetObjectColor( objID, red, green, blue, alpha ) works quite well for one or two objects at a time
or you could use a shader
my dissolve shader does similar to a group of objects at once source found here
