What I was wanting to produce was a detailed character. Also I have only produced a height map so far and was wanting to know how to produce a 3D environment with detail. I hear people mention meshes and don't really know what they are talking about . Been doing the 3D stuff now about 3 weeks and have produced my first mini game and now feel I am ready to expand my knowledge.

Blender https://www.blender.org/ is a free program and very popular and there are many tutorials online that can help with 3D modelling
but its not easy and the more complicated model you want the harder it gets. my extrude tool https://forum.thegamecreators.com/thread/223578
can create very basic models from a picture, mind you the pictures really should be small like 128 by 128 pixels or even smaller. The skill of 3D modelling
isnt just creating the model its making it so you can apply one texture to it. Texture mapping and thats another skill that only the better modellers posses
To texture an object i use lithunwrap https://www.geeks3d.com/20090303/lithunwrap-free-uv-mapper-for-windows/

creating a detailed 3D game may require the use of a placement editor to place all the objects where you want them. May I suggest
looking at one of AGKS asset packs to see if the models are what you want if so ide buy them. Trees can be randomly placed on the
terrain for example. If your lucky enough to own the games pack 1 BlockLifter3D has a random algorithm that places all turrets trees
etc. Its not highly detailed as I was looking for a greenscreen wireframe approach.

Goodluck with your game

I recommend B(lender)forArtists, it is a bit more intuitive to use than blender itself. May be that i feel like this because i come from 3DS Max.

Well I'm just getting to grips with blender one thing I did notice was the objects I've created and saved are in the file format blend I think it was . what do I do to save them in the correct format to use as an object in AppGameKit Classic.

Well I'm now using blender took a few hours of playing around of it to get some results . Will need to make my meshes a lot bigger as when I view them in AppGameKit they are much smaller than I expected.
Blender is a great piece of software and is really good for free. Hey Puzzler thanks for the tip on exporting to .obj file . Still got lots to learn but am making steady progress .

Was thinking there must be a way of upscaling in blender. Anybody know how to do this?

Thanks for all your help. Had AppGameKit classic for a year or so now and really love it . onwards and upwards. Have an excellent day.

You could use AC3D. It´s my favorite one, very easy to use with a good texture coordinator,
You can export the objects as direct x file complete with texture. AC3D has many export formats, i have added a screenshot.
