How can I set the timer() back by 20 seconds I've tried timer()= timer()-20 but this does not work.

This is a value retrieved by a system call. You can't change it, just retrieve it.

What do you want to do?

I am using it as a timer in a game and has so far worked fine . but now I need to take 20 seconds off the time . Back to the drawing board I suppose .

You can use this and in your current code just replace timer() with timerX()
