So I've decided on a name for my curent WIP game, but have been playing with art styles - in this case tree's. What I am aiming for is a cartoon style look, similar to Zelda, but at the moment I think I was getting closer to Lego.Which do people prefer - the old trees on the left, or the new ones on teh right? There's very little performance hit betwee the two, so it's mainly asthetic benefit.

Both look good but i think the new trees fit better with the rest of the graphics.

Old are more cohesive with the characters, new are more cohesive with the world.

Personally, i like the new ones better but they do make the characters feel more out of place as they are right now.

Yeah, the character doesn't fit, but it;s aplce holder until I get all teh animations built into the skelton, then I'll transfer them to other characters. It's also basic - once I remove the seams it looks far less blocky, but I plan to up the resolution.

Well...probably. I'm actually think I might go with a very basic "blocks" look like minecraft, just because creating 3D assets takes ages and isn;t my skill.

You have two different art styles going on there. Forget the trees for now.
Decide on an art style and then the tree question answers itself.

Thanks everyone. I agree...I'll look at the art style from a more joined up perspective then see where that takes me.

In the mean time, I added some basic reflections...

I'm going to get the world builder out for a little alpha testing with people, then I'll aim to add more missions and some more models to progress the graphics style.
