Android / How to set the version name of the APK from source code?

I maintain a version number variable within my app, is there a special name or function that would make it use that for the APK version name?

This would allow me to maintain one version string and not get them out of synch.

Something like SetAppVersion()

or a compiler directive, such as:

#AppVersion "0.8"
