Two years ago I released a freeware game that relies heavily on procedurally generated terrain matrices (see https://devilmaster.altervista.org/monolith.html ). Now I want to improve its graphics, so I made models with higher detail, gave them environmental mapping, real-time shadows, made lens flare effects... but I haven't touched the terrain yet. I think bump maps that simulate small indentations and protrusions (and also specular maps where the terrain is supposed to be a metallic surface) would help in perceiving the scene as more detailed without touching the structure of the matrix itself. The question is: is it possible?
