I found a message in my Google Play Inbox regarding Next Generation Player IDs:

Quote: "Turn on next-generation Player IDs
Next-generation Player IDs enhance your users’ privacy by always assigning users different Player IDs for each game they play. Next-generation IDs will be required for all game projects from March 2024.
Turn on next-generation Player IDs on the Play Games services Properties page. Make sure that you test for potential issues first."


Does AppGameKit need to be updated so that we can use this feature?

it seems it's been optional for a while and something you can activate now and test out before the deadline?

it doesn't sound like anything needs to be changed within AppGameKit, tho. ie, PGS issues the ID?

if/when you do test, some follow-up here would be useful to others.

if it does seem something AppGameKit needs to address, add an issue.

Yeah, I don't know how IDs are handled under the hood, but chances are good we don't need an update.

Quote: "Existing users who have already logged into your game will continue to get the same Player ID."

This makes it a bit harder to test, though...
