I'm afraid I'm a total noob creating 3d models so forgive me if my questions fall under the stupid category or don't have the lingo quite right

I've played around with several modeling programs, and I feel that JTEdit is a superior product for my needs. Coming from me, perhaps that just means it has a less intimidating learning curve

However, I need to use the models I create in DBP, and if I'm not mistaken that means getting them into the .x format. After an evening of playin around I have a very basic model composed entirely of bones attached to sphere meshes, saved as a .jtw file. So long as I keep saving it as a .jtw nothing extraordinary happens, but when I save it as a .x, close, then re-open it, various meshes seem to be randomly moved out of place.

Am I doing something wrong? Should I be using a different kind of mesh? Am I just hopelessly in the dark for this sort of thing? Does this smiley remind anyone else of that scientist muppet?

Thanks in advance =)

I went through the skinning tutorial closely, saved the completed tutorial as a .x, then upon re-opening the file it would appear it's also re-assigning vertexes to the wrong bones.
Yucky

Please, anyone have some idea what's happening?

If not, I'll need a good modeling/skinning tool to create x files. I'm not opposed to spending up to $100 on it so long as it's royalty-free.

Thanks

Nevermind folks, I figured out a workaround. Thank God, I really wanna use JTEdit

If I keep the working JTEdit file in .jtw format, and only save it as a .x when I want to use the model in DBP, everything is just fine, it seems to be keeping mesh and bone locations just fine.

It's when I try to edit a .x file that I created in JTEdit with JTEdit that things get funky. There's probably something weird going on there but it's not that big of a deal to just keep a working file in .jtw
