Hi there,

I've just released version 0.8.2 of my free 3D modeller DeleD. New in this version: polyline primitive, prefab viewer, speedbuttons to all edit functions and a number of small improvements. Feel free to visit http://www.gamefortress.com/delgine to get your own copy. And feel free to post your comments here or on the forum of the Delgine website.

Bye,
Jeroen

OK I've downloaded DeleD and this may sound like a really really stoopid question but how do I take any levels I've made with it and use them in my actual game. As in what syntax do I use.

Thanks James1980; in fact I looked at the UnrealEd and then decided to create my own leveleditor (which is now being transformed into a fullblown 3D editor).

Proshooter: all I can say is that you will have to export your levels to .x files. I know there are other people on this forum who have succesfully loaded such .x files into their projects so they better answer the question about the syntax.

P.s you might have guessed, but i'm not a DarkBasic user...

*Jeroen looks up from his DeleD texturepack/files code, sees a sticky topic, smiles and starts to type...* :

Thanks RPGamer. I'm sure a sticky topic like this will enable me to make DeleD better and better. I'll hope people will post their comments/ideas/bug reports/suggestions/whatever plenty here.

I think I mentioned this before in one of my emails, but options to choose x,y and z axis scaling and rotating would be good. At the moment it is rather inconvenient to use the text boxes at the bottom. Good upgrade . I really like the polyline addition, that is so useful for drawing floors and things.

Do you bite your thumb at me sir?

Thank Hamish. You indeed mentioned the x,y,z scaling/rotating options in one of your emails and it will be added in one of the next upgrades. Glad to see you like the polyline stuff, that stuff was pretty hard to get right but it works cool now.

Btw, I'm really, really curious about the levels/scenes/models you guys are creating in DeleD right now. Would anyone care to post a few screenies here?

I did make a level to test my FPS code with. It's very simple as it's a test level. I'll just upload a screen of it in DBPro................ Done

http://www.freewebs.com/thedarkbasicplace/forumstuff/level.jpg

I will probably use it to make more complicated levels, just I'm waiting for those x,y,z scaling options . Also I don't really make that many levels as I don't have much need for them at the moment. But DeleD is what I use when I do .

A request - Is is possible to have the auto-grid snap feature separated into two options - "snap vertices" and "snap object". It's just that prefabs get horribly mangled if you try to use the grid snap at the moment. You would probably just scale and align the object to fit.

Do you bite your thumb at me sir?

Hamish, you're right about the snapping, i've thought about it myself too and I will most likely fix it in a next release.

Btw, the website is down for the moment. It seems like the bandwidth for this month has been exceeded.... I hope it'll be fixed soon (it's not my webspace actually). If anyone knows about alternative free webspace, let me know!

the prefabs dont seem to be loading in properly, in fact, there are no prefabs listed, is this a bug, or am i not doing something right, the directory is properly configured in the options window. I'm using version 0.8.2

That's a weird bug I haven't seen before. Can you send a screenshot of the "create item" window so I can see what's listed and what's not. The prefab directory itself should have a bunch of subdirectories containing the actual prefabs. If you didn't change anything to this, it should be ok. It could be a matter of user-rights on those directories (maybe you're not allowed to read those directories?) but that would be a bit weird. Anyway, you could try to re-install the entire package in some other directory and see what happens.

everything else seems to work, including the images on the left side. also, there are files in the subdirectorys you see above, and also, i tried picking one of those subdirectories directly, but no luck. Even with this major setback, it's still a great piece of software

I can't see the image so please send it to [email protected]. Your system specs are allright. In fact, it looks a lot like the system i'm developing DeleD on.

When you say: "The images on the left side", you mean the texturepack right? If so, the problem is getting stranger, because the texturepack works in the same way as the prefabs: a directory with subdirectories containing the files.

I was just thinking, would it be possible to have DeleD being available for download on the DarkBasic site (3.3mb)? Since the DeleD website is down, nobody can download it and it seems a lot of DarkBasic users aren't happy with it. Having DeleD available for download here as well would solve that problem. Is that possible?

i sent an email
yes, the texturepack thing on the left works, i can open other packs, and whatnot, it all seems to be working fine except for the prefabs

(ps., perhaps if deled silently ignores errors, if you turn this off and send me the exe i can report if it catches anything.

@ Underlord: you might want to contact Dave Granada on [href]www.granadagames.com[/href] as he's made quite a lot of prefabs for DeleD. He is now devoting his website to DeleD levels/prefabs. If you ask him, i'm sure he's willing to send you more.

@ Hamish: there will be more import/export capabilities in future versions of DeleD for sure.

@ Jerico: I've got your email and that's a strange problem you've got there mate. I'll look into it...

Btw, about the prefabs, if anyone has made a few goodlooking prefabs and would like them to be included in the next release of DeleD, please contact me.

Cool, still waiting eagarly for those extra object editing options . I can't seem to be able to merge faces or select vertices any more . I will attempt to make a scene with some modelling in deled if this is fixed, although I still think world creating is it's strong point . I think once you have made all the changes i suggested (snapping improvements and scale and rotate improvements and the things i just said) it will be much better (it's surprising how little things make a world of difference).

@ Hamish: that's weird: i can still select vertices without troubles. Merging faces isn't implemented yet but will be in the future.

Check out the new snapping possibilities. You can now snap to object-center. This will avoid object-deformation, like you stated. I'm working on the X,Y,Z scaling/rotating thing now.

Hey Jeroen,

It would be good to have a grid primitive. It would be like the rectangle primitive, except divided up into a grid of squares/rectangles. You could specify the number of divisions. This would be useful for making rolling landscapes. Also I notice the subdivision with cubes doesn't divide into equal sections.

Edit, just realised that this is because of the snap mode.

Oh yeah, and I got the vertices working, although I think you should make the selection area bigger for them (maybe choose in the menu) as they are quite hard to select.

I don't know where you got that ZIP file from, but on the DeleD website you can only download a file called "deled08setup.exe". Run this file and it will install DeleD on your computer. Works like a charm. If it doesn't work for you, please let me know.

Yea I kinda figured that, the reason i got the other file is because of its size..i need to be able to fit it on a disk, because i got 2 computers, one is mine the other is my parents. My comp has DBP and the rest of my stuff but no interent(for now) i guess i'll have to find a
