Does anyone know anywhere where I can download free royalty-free models of a medieval sort of feel (maces, axes, swords, knights, peasants etc.)

Am I the only one here who's really confused?

You don't want much, do you? Free and royalty free, low poly character models are about as rare as hen's teeth. If you find any, don't expect them to be any good.

I really wish people would check their facts before posting things like that. Practically nothing on Polycount is royalty free. Those that do come with explicit license are all for non-commercial use only. And if they don't come with an explicit license, that doesn't mean "finders kepers" or something daft like that. You could get someone sued posting advice like that, so it's really very dangerous.

Now there is one good thing about Polycount. There is a lot of talent there, and you might be able to persuade someone to work with you if you have something worth working on. But those guys are quality artists and they won't work for free, and neither should they be expected to. They will - at the least - expect a share in your success if you have any.

The problem with free models is that since they generally come from different authors, they all are in different styles, and your game will end up looking like a hodgepodge of clipart. Not necessarily a bad thing, just something to be aware of.
