Well for almost a full year of toiling with either hard or free crappy level editors I surrender. I knew I could never beat Cart Shop. You won you foul program, I'm finally buying as I got the cash. (Once the link starts working again >_<

If I can't make games then I might as well make some levels. And that new version of cart shop does look slick. Here is a brief history of my failure:

3d map editor: Too confusing, I quit. Uesed for 2 weeks.

Magic world: Good for outdoor, usless for indoor, and is a chore to load into DB. Used for almost 1 year.

Quark: Like wtf.. Used for 5 minutes.

3ds max 5: We have a possible winner here! If only you weren't so mean to me. And stop laughing at me too. Used for 4 months.

Hammer: Damn those BSPs. Too mcuh reading to do. Used for 2 weeks.

Well that just about sums it up. Anything cheap in Cart Shop I should know before I brutally blow 40$ on it?

You have quake3 right? Ever tried gtkradiant?

IIRC, http://www.qeradiant.com/

There's also another compiler for it, made by some guy nicked Ydnar. It's called q3map2, maybe you could find it somewhere coz I don't know if it already comes with radiant. Don't know how to load the bsp though because I'm DBC. I'm sure you could ask around for instructions on how to use it on pro.

@David T

Out of the 5 programs listed 4 are free. One costs several thousand dollars. I believe that is the "anomaly" Exeat was talking about.

Spot on, but I'm going to leave it there because otherwise this thread could get very messy, very fast.

I feel your pain Megaton.

It's always the same, it takes longer to get used to level editors than it does to program them!.

I think Carto Shop is getting better all the time (from what I've seen at least) - and once DBPro starts using multi-textures, it'll all look soooo much better than it does now.

Plus all these clever folk with their .X model collision .DLL's make it a more friendly option than .BSP will ever be.

Heh thanks Van B, you got me convinced. And Fallout, will do .
And that "anomally"...well let me tell you, you jump to conclusions very quickly, so let me assure you it's not what you think.

Thanks everyone.
