hello
this is my first attempt ever at a high-poly scene:

cups. yes i know not the most original thing to model, but anyway. what do you think? its not quite finished yet - does anyone know how i could make sugar to to go in the sugar bowl ? :-s i think the coffee looks more like liquid mud to me but its the best i could get it lol
i'm also going to add a milk jug tonight lol
I made and rendered the scene in c4d ce 6- thats why it's just 600x400 pixels - does anyone know if it's possible to get an external rendering program or something like that so that i can render bigger pictures (i'm planning on doing my a-level dt design work in c4d, but i would really want to render bigger pictures)
Thanks
Robin

It looks nice One thing that always gets me about high poly work is, it looks too perfect If your modelling for realism, try and add some scratches, or signs of use.

Great work tho, very good indeed

The refraction is well done, but I'd increase the specular level of the objects, that is make the light highlights brighter and sharper.

Thanks for the comments
I've used a refraction setting of 1.52 (which is the actual refraction of glass - learnt that in physics the other day lol)
I've made a milk jug which looks quite nice, and started work on some sort of table surface for them to go on, and i'll post a new screenshot tommorow. tried to make some sugar but it looked naff so i've left it for now.

ok here is a new picture of the cups, sugar bowl and the new milk jug. i've put them all on a straw mat surface because that was the best texture i could find lol Here it is, any comments welcome

Does anybody have any ideas on now to make some sugar to go in the bowl??

Use the milk with a bit of a deform on it for suger It looks nice, however, the handle on the milk jug looks just a bit off. It seems like its that semi transparent grey glass, which the rest of the jug isnt. I think it needs to be clearer

Very nice once more

sorry i don't quite understand :-s - the whole jug has the same material as the cups, just the jug has some milk in which makes part of it white. Maybe if i spun the jug around the y axis slightly it would be clearer - i think it might be that the floor texture is wrong, you can't see the cup saucers, for instance very well...I'll render it again on the plain floor and upload the pic tommorow

for sugar you could do one of 3 things...
first make a single ground sugar peice and simply array it (which would put the scene upoto the millions)
second is make a solid object and give the texture a displacement, bump and refraction of sugar
third is similar to the first only using particles instead of objects.

as for the milk and coffee itself, look online at coffee and milk sites from people like Cravendale and Kenco; they'll give you a better idea of what the liquids should look like.
And use Metaballs/Metashapes instead, they act far more like liquid.

as for the cups, saucer and such... not to bad for first hi poly but quite obviously nurbed; setup smoothing groups and then renurb them with those smooth groups in mind. it makes a world of difference.

i'll see if i can't make and upload an example

Thanks very much for the comments Raven
as my computer is quite pathetic, arraying one grain of sugar would probably completely grind it to a standstill lol
yeah i'll experiment with trying to get a decent sugar material and do it the second way you suggested.

Robin

ps.
What do you mean about metaballs? i don't quite understand :-s

Hi,

Get more reflectivity than Specularity on those spoons, right now it looks too much like a brushed metal than stainless steel.Darken the color of the diffuse and reflection channels.

Also, the relfection/refraction of the glass objects is wrong but I know c4d CE has many limitations and does not include the advanced renderer or any good shader for this type of visual.

Hi
Thanks for the comments
point taken about the spoons, I'll test out what you suggested and see what it looks like then.
You think the reflection and refraction on the grass is wrong? I don't think it's too bad...I think maybe the specularity could be a bit sharper and enhanced, but I used several glass making tutorials to get the glass looking good...

Well since I don't have access to this software, eventhough it's free in many UK magazines,I can give you this advice.Visit cgtalk.com and go to the C4D forums, there is a very good crowd and for sure you'll be given tips to take full advantage of the "CE" version for what you want to achieve.
