Is it just me, or has the newbie count gone up 130% in the last month?

That's not a bad thing. Newcomers are great, and that's what builds TGC's future.

Now...

Is it just me, or has the ridiculous posting gone up about 200%?

This is insane. I'm pretty much to the point where I'm about to leave this forum. Luckily, only 3 things are keeping me here.

1.) Couple good forum members
2.) I always have enjoyed the 3D section
3.) Need to see issue 13.

Anyone else feel this way? Maybe it's just that season, or I'm edgy because of Mid-Terms.

Also seeing a lot of fights breaking out lately. Nothing major, but it's just something that doesn't need to be posted.

Suggustions to fix problems.

- When someone asks for help don't tell them to go to the God D*** site. You don't realize it because you're familiar with the place, but TGC is a huge site. It's unlikely they'll stumble upon the right place there first time. Also, many people just ask questions for reassurance that they're doing something right.

Post your outlook on the coming and past month.

(This is in no way directed at anyone, or a group of people. Just outta my own curiousity.)

Given that this is the post holiday season, an influx of new people is expected as DBC/DBP makes a nice gift. As to silly posts, as long as they stay in the General Talk section, that's cool by me.

Look at the boton of the form and read those names. Never

Well it's a community, full of people at differenct experience levels - basically if a newbie annoys you, ignore them.

There's a lot of spam and nonsense in the team requests forum, so I suggest that only the sensible posts are paid any mind, ignore the spam and they'll stop posting it. You have to remember that a newbie comming here probably thinks it's the same attitude as other online communities - where the moody oldbies give the newbies a hard time so the newbies need to stick up for themselves. This forum is different because there are so many people here willing to offer help and advice, newbies tend not to realise this until after they've made a few mistakes.

I have a copy of the Darkbasic Classic 1.08 Manual in a TXT file on my PC, and for every stupid post, i will post the whole manual on...lol, or just an excerpt...E.X:

Even better, but you have to keep with me...

In the newcomers section when user create's a new topic, before being able to post, user must select outta a drop down box DarkBASIC Pro or DarkBASIC Classic. Then user post's their question. Then have an auto reply with the manual of either DBPRO or DBC, depending on what the selected. Then it automaticlly locks the thread.

Theres the Newcommers problem solved.

Now the Team request I am still thinking up, but in a hour, and 1 Zappa CD later I should be ready.

If i ain't here, i'm probably playing DOA2 Hardcore on the PS2

how about a prerequisite to getting a forum account is an online proficiency test on DBC or DBP based on the related manual/help files? - At least that way we could filter/stop some of the more nonsensical posts by kids who don't even try to find help themselves, before asking silly questions.

Hi Van,well it's SSDD,been working alot on more than 20 something models,some mine,some not,...made another character speed-modeling video in wings for realtime use,been sparing a few $$ for a good animation/rendering software.

What about you?

haha I'd like to see that upon regsitering on the forums,to have your access to certain areas limited according to your score on random programming questions asked before login...j/k

That would be good for people to be able to post frome what there
date of regerstration is. there would be no one in code snips saying
"How do I" and in team req "I wont to make this game". I dont know
maybe something like that would be good.

All kidding aside, it would be kind of neat to have an online test of DBC/DBP basics. If you pass the test/read the FAQ, your forum title gets upgraded from newb to user. It might actually motivate some of the new users to study the core commands and such.

I wouldn't make it a hard test as much as an educational one. Multiple choice with unlimited retries. A few silly answers to make it easy to read and light hearted.

Another option would be that they could not post to some sections until they have read certain sticky posts.

A test to register for the forum would be a good idea. I would support it.

I am a new member to the tgc community got it for the holidays and even I notice the amount of posts from new people thant didn't bother to read anything before posting. i have read the forums before the new year and posts have changed, but it does show you that the coummunity is growing. I just don't understandwhy someone that wants to know something take 5 mins (or less) to find it. The gc site is big but it is possible to find stuff if you look for it.
