PSP plugins work also in Photoshop I think... there's a lot of compatibility between the two, despite-- or probaly because of-- the competition.

oOo, Serif Photo Plus 9 is here, run to the shops now.

It even has FULL Photoshop file import now, PDF file saving, etc. etc.

It is a very nice package, i have has them all since V6. And Draw Plus and Page Plus (Which is great BTW). The price is £50 for the lastest one, but look out for discount packages and stuff. Not going to vertake PSP or Photoshop in the near future, but getting there rather fast.

Web Design Starting from $200. Special limited offer. MSN or Email me for more information.

photoplus will never superseed the range that photoshop has because half of you are not aware of where good ole shop sits in the minds of professional, print ready artists ( every thing you see in posters bus stops wall posters magazines is spewed from shop unless it comes from illustrator, sometimes macromedia freehand, I hardly see pro houses say "oh we only use corel or mspaint so can we have that 2400 drum roll dpi tif scan of that model as a 72 dpi jpeg ) / Cg and Special effects artists ( most of the matrix lighting from the guns was hand drawn in with guess what!)/ web designers and web design realted graphics ( intel used macs and formz to create 3d images for there website here in the apac region and guess what the finals were processed in ( photoshop) / Game creators / Police forensics / scientists / etc..

One of the reasons its a lot cheaper is the compatability with the huge print companies and for print seperations you cant do better than shop. Dont get me wrong Photoplus5 and above are good packages but yeah it wont topple the big beaver.

IF you take alook at your history you would know that the university of Utah , George Lucas and a smash hit movie called starwars as well as Thomas knoll all had something to do with photoshop coming into existance. Tie fighter alpha channels is a hint...

But reviews and scores etc are getting very close to PSP, it is powerful but aimed at the home user rather than the workplace.

How many people here have brought the full Photoshop for non buissness related purposes?

And who knows, some day PS might have to bring down the price for home use and then Photo Plus will b out of market. I have been hearing predictions in the znet etc. about govermental changed to the pricing of goods, Photoshop for home use at £150 would be a great buy same as Elements for £50.

For home users thinggs can only get better as those corporate slugs are being very greedy!

lol, i wish. Sticking with Photo Plus / PSP (Photo plus has better image resizing algorithms, lanczos3 Window for starters)

As for websites, i use Photo Plus, but 70% of my designs are CSS as that is what i like, so no problem there.

Whats so good about living anywho?

Call me an old fart but I still like PSP3.1 - it's free, a small download (or I could mail it to you) and it has nice blending and painting tools. Certainly what I'd be using if I did'nt have PSP or PS4le. I actually use it quite a lot at work for drawing icons and app graphics because you can quickly grab bits of image and drag them away, then shade them and put them back where they were (gives simple 2D graphics a nice depth without too much messing about).

Let me know if you'd like a copy emailed, although a google search should be enough to find it. For a tight fisted solution - you could get hold of PSP3, and any demo you want - the beauty of art packages is that they seldom disable the PRINTSCRN key. Just draw, grag the screen, then paste it into PSP so you can save it.

Personally, I'm no great fan of GIMP, I find the UI a bit tedious and clunky, it's far too big, I like everything jammed in the corners of the screen and a lot of space in the middle of the screen for drawing. Gimp is full of little niggles, well all art packages are but Gimp would really shine in a full windowed environment instead of the open-source friendly eyesore it has now. Right now it'd be great for a multi-display PC though because you could have all the tools on 1 display and the drawing on another display.

For games design it is hard to beat Corel Photopaint 8. I have Photoshop too, and it comes in handy at times, but it's hard to use it all the time, it just doesn't have all the game design features of Corel. Corel Draw 8 is very old, and should be very cheap if you can get it. Corel Draw 9 is like PSP, so I don't like it.
