Today at 10:15 AM, my Grandfather had a heart attack and passed away. He was nearly 89.

I know there are many of you on this forum who have lost parents, grandparents and even siblings, but as you know its hard to lose someone you have known all your life.

Please think of my family. My grandmother who has been married to him for almost 65 years, and my Mother who is flying to Florida tommorow to be with her.

I know it may not be politically correct to ask for thoughts/prayers, but it would mean a lot to me and my family.

Only a couple died in my family............... grandmother's sister..uncle (age 40). Thats about it. My grandpa almost died from lung cancer and had a last minute surgery and is still here with me. I am so sorry John.

I guess my grandfather had talked about death before, and he said if he should pass, he wanted us to have a big party. So thats what we are going to do this summer

He was a very active 88, climbing the Sweedish Alps every year, hiking through the woods (we got lots here in Maine ) making trails, going fishing One day I had a friend over and when we got down to camp (their house of on the ocean) he was up on the roof, fixing it He maintained his own garden as well.

Pretty amazing for an 88 year old man I'd say He has a pacemaker and had survived cancer by having his bladder removed, so he was a pretty tough guy. He was taking his morning walk and just didnt come back.

He was a great man, I couldnt have ask for more

heart attacks aren't nice things either... dunno if your religious or not, but does help to take solis that he is probably being a scamp in heaven ^_^

Im not telling you all where I live

Yep, my grandparents regularly attend church, so its nice to know that he is in Heaven now

This is my first family member that I have lost that I have been close to. I lost my Great-Grandfather, he was 101 at the time, so we all knew it was going to happen. This just sorta came up, he was in perfect health, and just died. But I suppose thats the way God had it planned for him.

sorry mate to hear that. all of my grandparents have passed on now and my stepdad was killed on a motorbike a few years ago, Its not a pleasant thing to go through but it gets a little easier with time.

Sorry about your loss RPGamer. I know how you feel. I've lost all of my grandparents except for my grandma (82 she's in her last years), and my older brother also died. Wish he and my one grandfather lived till I was born, would have been nice to know em. My grandfather died a few years before I was born, and my brother survived for less than 30 minutes after he was born (2 years before I was born).

@rpgamer: I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. My grandmother(on my dads side of the family) passed away two weeks ago. I never really knew her much. The funeral was today(Tuesday) and my dad went. For obvious reasons no one at home could go because I think its roughly 900 miles from here(not to mention its in England).

wow.. that sucks. at least be glad you go to know your grandpa.. all mine died before i was ten. one of whom i shared a birthday with, and got my middle name from. and who i act just like, according to my parents.

though the one thing i'm surprised is that.. how are your grandparents so old? my great grandmother is 96, but your grandpa was 88? assuming you're about 15, each generation would have had to have had their kids at.. 36.. so i guess it's not that weird, but still.. that's old for 2 generations back!

I know how you are feeling, my great auntie died a few years back and i was VERY upset. Whenever i go visiting my grandparents i always think about her and for some reason i sort of expect to see her again.

The months before she died she was REALLY sick, breast cancer, collapsed lung, and a few other nasty things.

You will get past it but you will always remember him.

I get my middle name from him as well Drake

The thing he feared most was living in a nursing home, and not being able to do what he loved. So we all think it was best he went this way, and didnt have to suffer.

They do, and there's no reason to bring that into a personal thread like this... really...

I know when my grandfather was diagnosed with cancer, they said he didn't have a month to live. My father offered to visit, but he said it would be best if he didn't, because he wanted their last meeting to be a happy one. Perhaps it is best that way .

John, i offer my most sincere condolences and hope with the passing of time the pain will be eased and the memories will still burn strong in your mind. i know what its like to lose a family member, my great-grandmother died a few months ago. She was 93 and had great-great-grandchildren!
