Hi all, i am thinking about bying the 3d game maker
and since there isnt a demo i figured that i would
ask those who have bot the program some questions....
1. can you have a ingame menu?
2. can you play LAN/INTERNET on your games?
3. how good can the grafics be.. are they as good as you model/texture them?

Thats is... thanks

3d game maker is the drag and drop program right?

Well that program comes with a set of already made graphics you might beable to import your own i don't know and as for lan/internet play i dought it.

Its limited to what it can do you might as well just buy DarkBasic Classic because it will give you more use and you'll probably end up here whining on the forums because you wanted to make something that the 3DGM can't make.

Its basically for people who do not want to learn to code but still want to make games. Sort of like RPGmaker 95 & 2000 but with hell load better graphics.

So if your looking into 3DGM to code its not a coding tool you drag and drop stuff DBC or DBP are coding tools. But if your just wanting to do it as a hobbie then 3DGM is probably a good way to start. So is DBC though and DBP but...those are diffrent stories.

Soon to have a Asus motherboard with 64 bit CPU and the works weeeee!

I don't really know but all I know for sure is every game made in it looks like an N64 game and the quality isn't too great.

Well, you cannot make an online game, but you can make a multiplayer one somehow, lol. The gfx are pretty good, but you cannot import oyur own levels. You can add stuff to levels to make them look the way you want, add fog to levels, and do all kinds of stuff. But there are limits to it.

T3DGM is one player only and cannot import anything except models and sounds and bitmaps.

The "theory" of multiplayer with T3DGM is each player takes turns on one PC .....

So that leaves you with DBC or DBPro for lan parties. But don't expect to do much of a game for about 3-6 months of tinkering.

Oh, and there is a demo somewhere....
http://www.fileplanet.com/files/80000/80871.shtml

I tried this demo on win98 and it works.... sorta.
The rooms are all unlit. It may be a directx thing though.
T3DGM would expect DX7 instead of 9.

Edit>
T3DGM requires a 3D card. It ran fine on my laptop.
Some of the editing features are kinda cool, but I still think the target audiance should be 8 or less. Not suitable for coders.

Here a 1 word answer... don't buy it 3D Game Maker. Get DBP.

DBC or DBP i'd recommend DBC as it is easyer to use then DBP but DBP does have its great advantages.

But you might feel better using DBC all you gotta do is read tutorials and learn the code it is fairly easy.

The search continues.

I don't know much about 3D Gamemaker but judging by the interface it looks VERY limited.

I suggest you try DarkBasic Pro. It's better than DBC in many ways:

- Multiple Camera Support (What were they thinking when they made DBC? No multiple cameras?? That's got to be a joke!)

- Pixel and Vertex Shaders

- Built-in particle system

- Uses Direct X 9

- No annoying graphical glitches!

- And the games made in it just look plain cooler.

My parents got me DarkBASIC for my birthday, before then I was floundering around in Blitz3d, what a relief DB was. In addition to DB the package came with the Beginner's Guide to DarkBASIC Game Programming, and 3d Game Maker. I've foudn 3d Game Maker to be only good for when you're bored and you want to throw something crazy together, like shooting a giant turd with a magic wand. All that 3dGM imports is objects for characters and bullets, levels, sounds, title screen images, and video files. You are limited to an action game where you walk around, see bad guys, and kill them, collect stuff and get to the end of the level. Oh yeah, there's also racing.

In 3dGM you cannot have internet connections, practically no in game menu, and you can try modelling something and importing it, but there are strict rules you must abide by.

Overall, I recommend learning to program. If you need to learn the basics, start with qbasic. Or, get the book I mentioned above, and learn from that. Or if you don't want to pay for the book, look at the tutorials section and look for Binary Moon.

just remember that DBC and DBPro are NOT nearly as simple as 3D Game Creator. you have to literally program everything in your game, from how to move the character, what to do when the user presses the space bar, etc.

it's extremely rewarding, but it has a learning curve that is beyond "casual desire to make a game".

Go Go Gadget DBPRO!
