Hi TCA

I understand that you are contemplating arranging a Convention sometime in the UK in 2004.

If so, please please can I implore you not to arrange it until sometime after 1 July onwards? I'm not back properly in the UK until then.

Also, I noticed that all the pictures of the 2003 Convention showed curtains across windows, darkened rooms, half consumed pizza and coke. It looked, in fact, a bit like my University days. Could we possibly have a rule about not closing curtains and not leaving half eaten pizza lieing about the place?

PS: I forgot to add that I think another UK Convention this year is a brilliant idea. I support it entirely.

That was the plan after the last one - I don't know if it still is or not bacause no-one's mentioned anything.

BTW, the curtains were closed because of the project and screen, and not out of any deep-seated need to relive student days

If there is a convention, it should be held in Newcastle or somewhere central (central Britain, not central England) - then I could justify the travelling.

It's an extreme - it means the average travelling time from each corner of the UK would be longer

We can't just think Britain here. We've got a lot of compatriots on the continent in, inter alia, Holland, France, Germany, etc. They might want to come along. So I think we have to pick somewhere not right in the middle of Britain but more towards the continent a bit. Somewhere just northwest of London would be good - like Oxford (although Oxford is a bit expensive).

The alternative is IanM's secret underground volcano base spaceship launching hideout. But I'm told the room service from the evil acolytes is bad... and there's no beer. So personally I'd prefer a hotel.

IanM having a hideout without copious quantities of beer in a large underground cellar? - Unthinkable.

On another note, programming conventions are not cheap to set up - Not only do you have to pay for the venue, but also the PCs, projectors etc. as not everyone has a laptop they can bring.
For that reason it would be better if it were an official convention because more people would probably attend thus bringing the costs down.

I say birmingham mainly because travelling would cost me about £5.00 max I'll probably be coming this year, depends how much money I have (going to Reading festival and cornwall with my mates) so I dunno if ill be able to afford any more than £5.00. We'll all have to wait and see eh?

How about one for all 5 people who use it in Ireland?

I think that the prime choice for a location would be Birmingham - somewhere like the NEC Metropol hotel if enough people would come.

Well, the problem with a U.S one, is that whenever it comes up, everyone just mentions "how great" it'd be to have it in there state.
