(Don't think this has been posted before)

With all talk about the next convention being held in Birmingham, you may want to consult this flash movie:

Brummyland? Ye gods. Whats the matter with civilisationland? Y'know, bit to the south, starts with "L", one of the biggest cities in the world? Leave everyone else to the mushy peas and gravy (northern boys love gravy... mmmm...)

If Birmingham is cool, then I could badger my university (Birmingham uni) to give us a room with computers

There's this new toll motorway bypassing it though - meant to be quite good.

It is quite good. I went on it a few days after Xmas. Good old 95mph driving with minimal other cars. All for about £2 if I remember rightly. Was new at the time though.

But the major advantage is you don't have to even look at Brummyland if you don't want to Nice.

Heh, only been there once, when my train had to stop for an hour. Walked about a bit with a friend of mine, and we noticed that there was all these skin headed tosspots with Nazi-tastic logos all over themselves yelling at us (about 30 of them). Then we noticed we were standing in the middle of about 30 big black blokes. There was also about 10 police men running at us. Hmmm. I dragged my much too excited friend (she liked that sort of thing for some reason) away as they all jumped on each other. Class. Plus is tramptastic (well it was in 1993 anyhows).

Won't go there again.

Cheers

Dazzag, I'm sorry you had to see that, but there really isn't a lot of racism in birmingham. It's one of the most diverse multicultural societies in the UK. Oh well, some people are just twats!

Actually I don't live or come from London. Live nearbyish in Reading/ Windsor area. My point is that a vast amount of people live down here. And to be perfectly honest, this really is where civilisation is in this country. Well, when it comes to your career etc. I was actually joking about Northerners. I'm from Wales myself (the north bit), and we hate *all* you English So no single slagging off.

Heh, although yeah, when it came to jobs in IT etc. The rest of Britain pretty much sucked compared to London (eg. number of interviews, wages etc.). Ok, this was a decade ago, but apparently is pretty much the same.

the prooves my point. english people say "we're british" cos its scotland and wales that make this country to gr8, but the welsh say "we're welsh" and the scottish say "we're scottish" cos they dont want nething to do with us. we record we're the best most respected nationaility in the world, when everyone hates us... don't blame em

Heh heh. When anyone wins anything in sport (say the Olympics), then they tend to be called British if they are not English (obv. called English if they are from England). If they lose/ disgraced etc. then they tend to be called their respective countries. eg. Welsh, Scottish etc. Unless they are English. Then they are called British.

Why on Earth not? We've got the prime location, decent enough transport and the best culture there is! We were the centre of the industrial revolution, we're England's second city and it'll only take me 10 to 15 mins to get to the convention!

You're all to hung up on regional stereotypes!

Aha...

Tempting... don't push that sell....

Hmmm. Ok.

Quote: "You're all to hung up on regional stereotypes!"
Hey! No way man. With the obvious exception of not wanting to leave your car anywhere in Liverpool, and the fact that every welshman has a *little* place in his heart for Flossy and her like, I do not agree! I'm sure Birmingham will be a fine place once they have sorted out the plumbing.

Oh, and anyone hearing the place "Dudley" in it's native accent, just cannot help but crease up. Ahem, that's nothing to do with Birmingham really, just makes me laugh.

Thing about the stereotype, for Liverpool, though, is it's true . And I know, because I lived there for seven years too! You don't want to know how many times we were robbed, and we lived in a good area!

Seriously though, people just think brummies are stupid because of the slow accent, and the Birmingham city council's redevelopment schemes hove made it into a beautiful city.

Heh, lets try for Tunisia. No problems with anybody over a UK area, and it's where they filmed Star Wars. How perfect is that? And they won't nick your hubcaps. Probably.

you'll find that was telford/shropshire.

Birminghams not that bad, i heard its been massively redeveloped since i last saw it, though to be honest when i was there i did hear a lot about those racial conflicts, as that dude said further up the thread.

and remember, birmingham has its own palm beach under spaghetti junction.
