I am really bored today, and since i haven't really done any games in DB since.. god 2 years, i figured I would do a retro style game:

I was thinking about making it a side-scrolling space shooter, but make it a little more detailed. Like being able to purchase ship upgrades and have stats besides 'health'.. like ammo for each equipped gun, heat, etc.

I'm also torn between doing the traditional "always moving right" shooter, and actuially allowing the player to go left or right themselves, ofcourse, doing that would make it turn into more of a platformer ^_^.

Anyone got any ideas they'd like to tack on? Try to keep it retro.

I always like Harrier attack on the spectrum, especially the flak guns, Prehaps you could take a look at that for insperation.

I loved Harrier Attack (although I had the C64 version) - but there's a lot of retro games to get inspiration from, perhaps look back at some of these:

Wizball
Uridium
Defender
Choplifter

I reckon a remake of Choplifter would be cool, rescuing little men and blowing up gun emplacements are always rewarding gameplay facets, which is what you want for a retro game. If you do go with left and right scrolling, remember the inertia, it's vital - whatever it is it should always slow down before turning. In Harrier Attack, you had to turn really gently till you were facing the front and hovering above a landing pad, then slowly descend onto the pad to refuel.

Or...

You could remake Oids (Atari ST classic) and make a lot of older gamers very happy. Oids is a bit like Thrust and Defender and Asteroids mixed into one - you have to destroy little prisons and rescue the little dudes without setting fire to them with your thrusters.

do us a cool version of robotron 2084, one of the best games ever made, by williams ar atari i think, get mame, a shed load of rom images and plunder ideas!!! i'll do the models if u like, take a look at some of my stuff, i'm very adaptable. OIDS is one of the most addictive titles ever made. but wizzball on the 64 was real ground breaking stuff. a remake of that would be killer. joystick wrangling mahem at it's best. shadow worlds on the atari 800XL kicked ass to. chuckie-egg anyone?
