If you're content is good, you will be able to fund it with related product advertising and affiliations, or commission from contributors. It's the only acceptable way to do business on websites these days, other than selling products or services of your own as part of your site. Companies will only pay on a results basis.

Look around and you'll notice that 99% of banners are direcetd via Tradedoubler, Ad-click and a whole host of other affiliate schemes.

Well, I know some that don't even look if they get a good result. I know some shops of my town have publicity on websites, but don't even know if that site is visited once in a month.

I really wouldn't bother with ads, the *only* ads I ever click on are Google AdWords links (very, very occassionally), and Microsoft ads when they appear on Slashdot

If you have a brand, you can do merchandise, but games development isnt really much of a merchandise kinda brand. You dont see DB selling DB t-shirts, because only the opitomy of unstylish people would even consider wearing them for free, let alone buying them.

..... but if you're brand was about .. say .. drum'n'bass????

Isn't cj.com that domain that constantly tries to install GAIN and other spyware on your PC? Sometimes you just have to draw the line and decide which side you're going to stand on. Either you're part of the solution or part of the problem.
