Before I go and do something stupid, is it possible for me to have DirectX9b (already installed) and then go and install the DirectX8 SDK again? Or will DX throw a fit and have no idea what's going on? The reason I want to do this is so I can have my VB6 samples + documentation back while DX9 only has .NET versions.

Well not downgrade, I want them both installed, I don't even have to use DirectX 8 - just want the documentation that comes with the SDK.

Hmm, I wonder if there's an option to not install it and just the sample files, doubt it, those options are usually greyed out or 'required'.

Edit: Wait... what's that beneath your name Mouse? Could it be? Yes, it is, you finally got yourself an avatar! But now you'll have to change your sig as well

Yup, it worked. I just unchecked the 'install runtimes' box and only installed the samples/documentation/etc files, DxDiag says 9b and the tests all worked. Hooray!

Oh dear... and I went and made it to keep people happy, too cuz I figured the hard-to-recognize business held some water. Heh.

By the way, sorry I was wrong about that. I can see how one would need both SDKs .

Hmm... maybe you should learn to read, let me quote my VERY first post:

i meen, when u install the DirectX 9, it vill install the same versionus dll-s, that example the 7 install. So u vill get a dll from the version 7, 8, and the 9. Like d3d7.dll, d3d8.dll, d3d9.dll.

U dont need to install an older version, or tri to downgrade.

You're not listening to me, I don't care about the dll's, I want the sample documentation!!! You know, the help files, the example project files, etc.
