I finally got around to working out how to create menus and so forth for DVDS.
Creating a menu system was really similar to cdrom production except I got a few hiccups with codecs in video footage.

Once I solved that tho it was pretty straight forward. chapters also in the footage was a new feature i had to mess with.
The neatest thing I worked out was buttons with a bit of animated footage of the actual file it loads. I used two episodes of transformers as my educational test, this dvd is not for sale or distribution, I just needed something large so it posed a proper testbed for something as large which is what a client would want. It can take a while to re-digitise footage into other codecs which proved to be the most time consuming part. gotta love virtual dub as well , it handled it like a breeze.

hehe, well heres your song for today *lord

Dreamer Lyrics by Supertramp

Dreamer, you know you are a dreamer
Well can you put your hands in your head, oh no!
I said dreamer, you're nothing but a dreamer
Well can you put your hands in your head, oh no!
I said "Far out, - What a day, a year, a laugh it is!"
You know, - Well you know you had it comin' to you,
Now there's not a lot I can do

Dreamer, you stupid little dreamer;
So now you put your head in your hands, oh no!
I said "Far out, - What a day, a year, a laugh it is!"
You know, - Well you know you had it comin' to you,
Now there's not a lot I can do.

Well work it out someday

If I could see something
You can see anything you want boy
If I could be someone-
You can be anyone, celebrate boy.
If I could do something-
Well you can do something,
If I could do anything-
Well can you do something out of this world?

Take a dream on a Sunday
Take a life, take a holiday
Take a lie, take a dreamer
dream, dream, dream, dream, dream along...

Dreamer, you know you are a dreamer
Well can you put your hands in your head, oh no!
I said dreamer, you're nothing but a dreamer
Well can you put your hands in your head, oh no!
OH NO!

Indi. I'm currently making a DVD too as it goes I'm using MySoniq DVD to author the menu's but yours do look quite plush - may I ask what software you are using so I can investigate it, or is this a DBPro program?

If so please divulge! I'd be interested to learn because my project shall be finished in a few months and is for the DBP community (i'll tell the general public more nearer to completion - I dont want to get nagged to finish it so no formal announcement yet).

I didn't mention the hard drives sizes though, did I ?

I've got a 40Gb, 2 very large hard drives (around 200Gb) + and a 300Gb one (thats my sisters one).

Pioneer ones do look good. Dabs are selling them for £75...

Put simply the Optorite DVD RW DD0201 is the best DVD writer I could ever have imagined getting. I believe Sony brand it too.

What makes this drive so great is that it handles + and - media. + can write faster, but - is cheaper. Most other drives confine you to one type of media or the other but having the flexibility to chop and change depending upon how much burning you have to do v's what it's costing you, the Optorite is king. It's also a CD writer, and handles RW media for all formats +, - and CD.

Ricoh where the top brand of CD copiers once by a long way for the simple reason they where the drives the pirates used so had software written especially for them. That's changed.

I have a Ricoh DVD/CDRW MP9060 that broke fairly soon after purchase, although my old two speed writer was also a Ricoh and that still works... On surface value i'd say they aren't built like they used to be, but that's a very small sample of old/new drivers to make that kind of judgement for sure.
