Hi all,
Thought I'd announce my current project in its earlyish form.

It's an old fashioned football management game CM style with all the usual features plus a couple of special extras.

The match engine and background stuff is pretty much done so hopefully should have an alpha build in a couple of weeks.

Screenshot of the first squad view build is below.
Backgorund images are temporary at the moment.

In the beginning, the universe was created...
This made alot of people very angry and it has been widely regarded as a bad idea...

I'm using a weighted random system for stats - I want all teams in a division to be relatively even so it is down to the manager. The biggest challenge has been the AI for squad selection. Not overly tricky but very slow - 846 teams checking and picking 16 from 30 players.

The game playing routine is pretty complex as well. Had to draw a ton of charts up in visio before i could even write a single line of it - around 3000 lines just for that and it grows daily.

If this is a football game then why do you have a soccer ball for the backgound?

Bah, football=soccer for us North Americans.

@Carlos

It looks very nice. I've always loved management games and this will be one for me to watch.

1 country in the world uses a different word for football and yet the denizens never seem to be able to adapt to us rest-of-the-world peeps using the word for something else! It's them that's wrong I tell you!

I look forward to this, I haven't seen a proper football game in DB yet. Although by the sounds of things your going to be writting this for a long time.

Howzabout putting a playable demo out soon? Then we get to see it before the program gets too complicated and abandoned!

Yay! I really want to make my own sports manager one day.
Somebody did one a whlie ago, with 3d match simulation as well - don't know whether it got finished.

Looks good

lol Ansy, but I think i've nearly finished the complex bit.

Give the computer a squad of players it picks a match squad plays it against your team. Full commentary (little buggy in places admitedly).

The only thing is this is all backend processing so need to get cracking on the frontend now so you can see what's happening.

Give me a week or two and I'll knock up something playable.

As for 3d simulation - not in v1 which I'm working towards at the moment. I think it will come in later versions but I have a couple of other things up my sleeve which will more than plug the gaps

Here's a quick run-down:
846 UEFA registered clubs
30,000 players
95 days where a match is played
Eng Prem,1,2,3 + Scot Prem,1,2,3 Playable
UEFA Cup, Champ League, FA Cup, League Cup +scots FA Cup & League cup
LDV Vans Trophy (brrm brrrm)
Play-offs

Extendable tables so easyish to drop in a few other national leagues.

I've still got to name this thing but rest assured 'soccer' won't be in the title.

If it ain't broke - try harder.

1 country I though only England called it football. I know the US calls it soccer. And so do we. I'm not positive but about France but I know in Québec they call it soccer.

this game looks good i was going to play Championship manager earlier in the week but i decided not to but i will have a go at playing this when it is complete.

Also it might be tricky to do a match interface similar to CM4 for both text commentry and were it shows the birdseye view of the football pitch but i don't know if you are going to do it that way.
can you elaborate on how you are laying out your match interface

Right the match interface will be text only for the version 1 build but everything is modular so is 'easily' upgraded in the future dependant on success.

I've scoped out the alpha build/demo and am around 65% there.

The match view will be very similar to what you see on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday - current scores on the side panel lower ticker for any highlights. The main window will contain the commentary.

The game currently outputs the commentary/ticker stuff - i just need to get it displayed at the moment.

2 weeks at most from now for a demo.

If it ain't broke - try harder.
