Remember a while back we talked about school pc's and someone brought up NET SEND. what would that do. im really bored here in computer for about another 15-20 minutes.

open up command prompt and type net send then the comp name. use net view to see all the comps on the network use * for all comps instead of a comp name

net send <ipaddress/hostname> <message>
Will send <message> to <ipaddress/hostname>. If the user has the messaging service running then it will be displayed in a simple dialog box on their screen. This can be rather irritating, and will probably be frowned upon by the network admin(s) at your school, so I wouldn't advise doing it. Although if they're competant they've probably already disabled the service.

you get that error when doin the net send command or the net view, i got an error doing net view. if thats the case you have to find out the comp name but going to the comp itself

If your running windows ME, go to start, help, and type "chat". Click on that chat option and then click the button with the little arrow. It will open up a built-in chat client

I think the last Windows updates ditched NetSend as it wasnt being used legitly. I once ran a batch file which constantly looped and resulted in all machines on the network requiring a reeboot due to a buffer of nonsense messages. Oh how I was popular that day.

Mine are all crap...they are set to 8-bit resoulution at 800x600...you can't even surf...half of the stuff is disabled. The filter blocks pretty much everything with the words "games", "free", and "porn". The things freezes more then the North Pole.

Try this: right click on the desktop, then create a new textfile. Write

then save the file as funny.bat (not as .txt)
then doubleclick at the icon, and have fun

Not here, myself and a mate of mine wrote a program to net send people in the school by selecting their name from a list and typing a message (the school logs the names of everyone and what computer they're using onto the LAN so it was easy to do) and we gave it to everyone, apparently the Help Desk guys caught someone using it and were quite impressed by it and so we were paid a couple hundred dollars to write a couple network apps for them. Significantly better then being suspended.

Rebooting the computers shouldn't make a difference. If the computer is on and it receieves a net send message then it will record it and only display it until the previous one is clicked, they also don't disappear if you restart the computers. If I sent you a hundred messages and you restarted, the messages would still appear causing you to click one hundred times. So technically rebooting all the computers would do nothing. o_O

What is the command prompt? Is it MsDOS? I want to test it on my home computers because they're all linked together. Please tell me what command prompt it is.

When my mom was working on her laptop, I used the net send command to tell her a secret (Which I'm not telling any of you), and she sure got a kick out of it.

It sends a message, and then it executes itself -> it send another message, and so on... its funny
(and it sends the message to all computers in your network)

Yes, but they would still be queued up on the other computers in the network. Maybe it's different for different OS'? But as far as I know, that isn't true.

I've been working on a net send chat program for a while now, the only problem is the typical batch file command prompt has an annoying button press instead of the actual ability to press the "enter" key...so I'm trying to make a normal command prompt in a batch file to prompt stuff like user name and message, I have everything else working but that.
