Hmmm......well, I've not noticed it being that bad, but I've only been posting since December.
Seems to me the easiest and most simple way is just for the Mods to be a little more agressive
I've often thought that they're just too damned nice compared to some other places I visit. How about this....instead of just deleting the posts that cause annoyance which would, as someone said, just mean that the poster will just post again....how about creating a special area where posts are moved to?
If a post vanishes, the poster can check this area to see if its been nuked. This way, you won't just get a new post from the original poster who thinks the forums just went strange and killed his thread.
If he reposts, the Mods can either suspend that person for a day or two and perhaps send out an automated e-mail stating why this suspension is in effect. Repeated violations mean more suspensions and/or a ban.
This way, you don't have to clutter up the forums with locked threads to give a clue to the poster that a post was inappropriate and you also don't need to just delete them which will mean a repeated post...as they can check the special area for locked content.
As an added bonus, anyone who fancies a laugh can browse this special forum in a read-only capacity and read all the flamebait and idiocy. THis could end up on a FAQ or something so that users will know the first place to look when a thread gets killed is the special read-only forum area.
I don't think that only being able to post a certain number of times a day or whatever is a good idea. Most other forums allow you to post when you like. If you change the way forums work at the expense of the user, they'll just go elsewhere and this place'll end up for an elite few like DBDN. I also don't think that paying to post is going to work for the same reasons.
