Can't decide whether to;

Package my game in a 6mb ZIP file where the user would have to open up PLAY.exe and run and be tempted to look at media files etc in the process

* or *

11mb Installer file which places shortcuts on the desktop and puts it in a neat Program files folder, all ready to roll. More proffesional I say.

Yeah I like to see installers too, but an extra 5mb is hard to swallow - maybe you can look for a more compact installer - I know there's a lot of alternatives, maybe someone can come along and suggest a few decent freebie ones.

The installer should not really be 5mb bigger than the zip. What are you using to create the installer?

Inno Setup is a decent free installer. That won't add 5mb of bloat.

Personally I would prefere a zip as I can just extract it and play. Then when I am bored or it just delete the folder and it is gone.

I don't really like DB games that come with an installer - too much hassle really, especially if the game is a beta version which is liekly to be played once then never again.

If it's a release then you make an installer, but try to find a better one

Zipping the installer does little.

It's not that it adds 5mb, but the Installer simply does not compress the files, and once they are in the installer the Setup.exe file does not compress.
