I am interested in conducting a beta test with the help of 2 or 3 willing volunteers, for my VB.NET Class Builder app. I am grateful to anyone who is interested, but I would ask that you please have the following:

-an understanding of OOP and the concept of Classes
-at least intermediate experience with vb.net programming
-have manually written one or more vb.net classes
-some version of vb.net or vs.net or sdk (.net framework 1.1 is required to run my app)

Depending on the response to this I will select 2 or 3 people to partake in the testing. The reason I am conducting this test is that my site is getting a ton of traffic yet I have no purchases or registrations of the full product and I want to know why . There is a free demo of the app that apparently isn't enticing anyone to buy the full jammer. Maybe my app sucks but I won't know that unless I get some feedback from other programmers. The only thing I can offer to the selected testers is a copy of the full app and any other updates to it, for free, for the life of the product. The full version would be the newest version (including changes/features based on tester feedback) + any subsequent updates in the future, again, for free.

PLEASE READ:
Anyone who is interested in participating - please post here FIRST. I have to explicitly "select" you for the test in order for you to be eligible for the free full product "payment" at the end of the test.

I will monitor this thread throughout the day and hopefully we will have a small group soon and we can begin the tests. Again, please post here expressing your willingness to participate, and maybe a small "blurb" of your experience (not necessary but could help me determine best candidates). Once the group is decided I will be in contact with those people and we can proceed from there.

IMMENSE THANKS AND GRATITUDE TO ALL THOSE WHO REPLY.

Thanks
James

I've used VB6 a lot more then .NET but I still have quite a bit of experience in it so I guess I'm qualified. I took a look at your program a while ago and considered buying it but I guess the reason I didn't was because I prefer to type all my code manually (I know, quite contradictory to how VB works in that it generates subs and control code for you).

To give an example of what I mean though, when creating a Win32 application in C++, 99% of the time I'll choose to create all my resources and controls myself with the Win32 API rather then using VC++'s MFC and built-in Visual Editor. Despite MFC probably saving me a bunch of time, I just like to know the code is there because I put it there and not something else. That's just the way I work so naturally having a program write part of the program for me doesn't really appeal to me, I can't answer for other people though.

I am experienced both in VB6 and VB.Net, if you want to see some of my work then download my IDE which uses VB.Net.

If your still looking for a tester then I want to be in

Cool. Dark Rider makes 2! I'll give this thread a little while longer and by this afternoon we should be able to get started. It's 10:36 am here so I'd say by 2pm we will go.

THANKS and I will check back a little later on.

Exeat and DarkRider should get the demo, install it, and start taking a look at it if you haven't already

click the image below to get to my site, then follow Downloads button, then select the demo file (it is zipped)

I will check back a little later to see if we have anyone else
Thanks

I'm not looking to beta test, but my outlook on this is so:

I'm an experienced programmer, and I never use tools to build code for me. But I'm the kind of person that would d/load tools just to see what is possible.

Less experienced programmers are likely to want to use such a tool. However, their inexperience may lead them to fear such tools and any additional complexities.

It's one of those Catch 22 situations. I imagine that your target market is the middle of the road programmers. Looking at your site, you are expecting visitors to have a reasonable level of understanding, but this sector may not want a tool to do the job for them. Maybe the problem you have is a mismatch of product and marketing material.

Might I suggest you complement the tool with some documentation on the features and exactly why you need them. For example, why do I use Get-Set code, and why do I have to consider passing variables ByRef or ByVal?

BatVink,

Thanks for the insightful comments, I greatly appreciate them. You are right when you say that my target is middle of the road programmers. My app is really for programmers who know how to write classes but don't want to write all of the redundant code over and over, especially when it comes to Class Properties in vb.net. I am trying to tap the "lazy" factor. Let's say you were writing a class called Customer, and in it you simply wanted 4 Properties (fields-whatever we want to call em) you could type out the following:

or you could use my app to generate the code text for you, like I just did, in literally 1 minute 20 seconds! Notice the get-set blocks are completely redundant except for the bits related to the actual property name and variable type.

I get what you are saying and I am rethinking, like you said, mismatch of product and marketing as well as the rest of the things you pointed out

Thanks again for your comments!
James

My VB knowledge is rather limited, but

That's a very good point. Delphi has a wizard for ActiveX DLLs that works similar to your class builder. Even tough I could write the code on my own, it's much faster to let Delphi generate the core and then tweak it.

Me, I'll sit and write this love song as I all too seldom do
build a little fire this midnight. It's good to be back home with you.

@CattleRustler

Hmmm... I already have a tool that does this reduntant code for me. It's called the .NET IDE.

When I type

Public Property FirstName()

All of this code is generated for me:

Public Property FirstName()
Get

End Get
Set(ByVal Value)

End Set
End Property

I'm not sure how much I would benefit from a tool that does what the IDE already does.

true, but the app does methods and events as well. Also it saves your classes allowing you to reload and redeploy them quickly to other projects and also the IDE doesn't create the Private internal variable for each of the properties- but I see what you're saying.
