Is it just me or is Family Guy the greatest cartoon comedy ever made ever. Beats the hell out of the Simpsons easy. Just bought the DVD box set last week because I was such a big fan.

Does anyone else like it?

Oh dear.

Family Guy is hilarious but I can't let you say it's better than the Simpsons. The Simpsons has been constantly hilarious for 350 episodes. There are at least 3 times each episode where you laugh till you can't breath.

If you'd seen Family Guy all your life and you'd just discovered The Simpsons I think you'd like the Simpsons more.

In the beginning, the universe was created...
This made alot of people very angry and it has been widely regarded as a bad idea...

Well I've done the opposite, Chris, I think Family Guy beats the Simpsons every time - not that its bad, its sepurb, Family Guy is just so much funnier as they included so many different sketches and irrvelavant specahes!

Not saying you have ruptured capillaries or anything

Given the choice I’d watch Family Guy over the Simpsons any day. Simpsons is very good though.

Family guy is a totally different sense of humor in many senses. A random sense of humor I guess...which is why I like it more than the simpsons.

The Simpsons is only random in the beginning, you never know whats is going to happen based on the first 5 mins it seems to have no signifcance to the rest of the show whatsoever.

Family Guy, however, is pretty much the same in the beginning, but throught the show more and more random things are added usally in the form of flashbacks! It's just so funny, considering how stupid some of the charcters are!

I don't really think it's fair to compare family guy to simpsons. I mean the simpsons has been on the air since 1989, and family guy since 1998 i think. The simpsons is the original pure and simple.

Now family guy is however is funny as hell, and i think that their humour has nore adult content then the simpsons. For example stewie the sadistic and presumably homosexual baby with plans for world domination and who always attemps to kill his mom.

They are both great series, but comparison of those two is just not fair. Without the simpsons, there probably wouldn't even be a family guy.

Family guy was class. Pity they cancelled it really.

Most funny moment for me was when the dad wanted them all in the cellar. His wife doesn't want to go. He says to the wife something like "Are you pregnant?", she says no, so he pushes her down the stairs. Arf.

Heh, and when the pervy blokey reckons his fave bird was one of the ones from Hanson. Then thinks they are kidding when they say he is a bloke. Hohoho, and with his mags under the bed too... choke.... no no, then theres the time when Brian can tell the pervy bloke just had sex with 2 women when he comes back from Tailand. But the bloke then says, no it was 3 women. Everyone then goes quiet. God, I almost cried over that one.

And the baby isn't gay, as he liked some girls in nursery. Think they just like to make him like a posh evil english bloke. But as a baby.

Simpsons is very very good, but Family Guy is the Simpsons grown up IMHO. And funnier, obviously.

Cheers

Ps. Although a few years ago I would have argued that Duckman was the best cartoon TV comedy

Yeah, but we get things repeated all over the place. Last guess was that FG was on (at various places throughout the 3 series) about 3 or 4 channels. But I've got all 3 series, so it doesn't matter. Quick question though, I noticed that the FG boxset is now out with all 3 series in 1. I didn't bother as I have all 3 series anyhow. But the big boxset states that it comes with extras, *plus* 14 unseen episodes. Is this right? 14 Episodes? If so, then can you get the extra disk on it's own?

Oh, and as a small promotion of comedy programmes (not cartoon though), check out Nighty night and Darkplace. Both of which just finished, so should be winging over the pond in the next 6 months or so. Class stuff. Almost equals the office IMO. Most good.

Cheers

I still think Ren & Stimpy is the funniest cartoon series ever. I can't watch more than one Family Guy in a row because it's too over-the-top.

"This Just in" a show on TNN is my favorite now (i just love political comedy... and any show that makes fun a ted kennedy.)

Family Guy is a great show I will admit, but i won't wtach to much of it till it comes back in 2k5.. (i can only wtach the dvds so many times before they were out on me)

My opinion:

I've been a huge Simpsons fan all my life, i've seen every episode at least 3 times(with the exception of the new ones of course) But I have to admit that Family Guy is much funnier. Sure The Simpsons have been around much longer, but really that doesn't matter at all when it comes to how funny it is. The Simpsons is more of a "laugh to yourself" type comedy and Family Guy is a "laugh out loud" comedy.

As for South Park...that show was funny the first couple of episodes, but the jokes are entirely recycled and overused.

Personally I do like the Simpsons but I think that after 13 years the writers just cant milk anything more from it. And the characters have changed radically(Marge overuses the word 'crap' these days) and the newer episodes are really poor (Homer versus Tony Hawk?).

South Park just plain isnt funny. It was alrigt maybe for the first series, but now I just cant stand it.

@Eric T: What do you mean back on in 2K5? Is there gonna be a new series?

If I had to live on a desert island I would definately take The Simpsons with me rather than Family Guy.

@ Dazzag

Yep. Whoop whoop, big it up for new British comedy. Nighty Night was brilliant but I doubt it will reach the states (I don't think they even ever got Alan Partridge).

That episode of Darkplace with the giant eye is one of the best programs ever.

In the holidays I watched Brasseye again and it is just incredible. My favourite bit at the mo:

(in a news room. The guy being interviewed thinks it's a real news program and expects an introduction like 'I'm joined by politician Darcus Howe')

"I'm sitting opposite a man,
he knows nothing,
he talks all the time,
the result is he's a trenchant buffoon,
he has no idea how to present television shows,
he looks ridiculous in that fashionware,
he swans around the whole time hoping people will recognise him,
when in fact, nobody's even remotely interested in him,
he's taken up enough time on this show already and he has even opened his mouth,
God only knows what he's doing here,
I've got nothing to ask the guy,
and as far as I can tell he could be a bit of a coco-shunter as well."

I think that's the whole point, it's been going so long that the jokes and characters are becoming a little too predictable and you've seen too much of it. The fact that you can rewatch episodes of the Simpsons and still laugh at the jokes you've already heard is a real credit to how good it is. There's no way the Family Guy would last 13 years and we can see that because it's been cancelled already.

The cancellation was due to the animators (located in Korea) shut down and the other animators in line asked to much... and FOX (being the cheap asses they are) refused to pay the extra for new animators. thus all of a sudden we see 2 eps of The simpsons on Fox Sundays, and 1 month later FG season one was on DVD.

That as they say, is that.

My favourite was when they got that agony aunt women in for an interview about women defending themselves. By the end of it she said she would beat off as many attackers as she could. The interview ended with the bloke asking who would pay the cleaning bill. Arf. Even better than the cake episode.

Oh, and for bad taste fans, Jam has to be my favourite. Right on the edge that one. And incredibly weird. The DVD is even weirder, with the second DVD being exactly the same as the first (if I remember rightly), but with weird effects. Screweduptastic. Think there is a mini-mode on some of the chapters where everything appears really small. Erm...

Futurama was cancelled and it was better than the simpsons, although it was still by matt groening, the different characters and settings make it so much more original and unique (Go zoidberg!!!!!)

FG is funny. Simpsons if funny. Futurama is funny. Why can't i have them all?

It's weird how everyone credits The Simpsons and Futurarma to Matt Groening when he probably has nothing to do with it anymore.
