This is a combination of shameless plug and public service announcement.

I recently entered a Renderosity contest sponsored by FX Realms. The idea is to use a demo of their software to create a two legged cat or rat critter. The top three contestants can earn some nifty swag in the form of free software.

Check out my entry in the contest. If you like it, please vote for it.

FX Realms Creature Creater software is pretty neat stuff. If you have never played with it before, it allows you to select from hundreds of parts (in the full versions) and mix and match them to create a wide range of characters. You can even stretch those parts to make them even more individualized. You can then export those parts as a DXF mesh or 3DS object for further texturing or animation.

I had a blast playing with the demo and I can see where it can be a big help for indie game developers.

Oh, I went for the cat babe theme. If your parents censor your surfing, ask permission before visiting.

Thanks, Mussi. Humbly, I think my entry is pretty darn good. There are some other entries that I think have stretched if not out-right broken the rules. They have used hair generators and some rather pricey rendering tools to create images that barely resemble the original models.

Sorry Chris, I don't watch much main stream television. Never heard of the program. Otherwise, I would have tweaked the title a bit.

Voted for you...you're 4th at the moment!

First is an entry with hair rendered by a 3DS Max plugin
Second uses full version of s/ware, not demo
Third has been bastardised with PSP 7

Thanks for the vote and running total. Good to know that I have the moral high ground.

Voting continues to midnight Thursday so I may have a chance to rally.

Voted for you.

The software sounds like an organic version of DoGA - something I know you are very familiar with.

I am downloading the demo now, so I can try it for myself.

Edit - You are in second place, with only two votes in it!

Coolness. Yes, Creature Creature is very much an organic version of DoGA. If you don't have a character modeller on your team, this program help out a bunch. On an earlier version of the Bast_z model, I fired up Milkshape 3D, loaded up a skeleton, appended the mesh, and was able to assign the verts to the bones to make a nice posable model. With a little more work, I could have added animations to the design. Not too shabby for a single night's work.

Thanks. It looks like it will be a close race for the top spots with only a few votes separating each of the entries. The Renderosity newsletter just hit the inbox with a mention of the constest in it. I'm sure that will throw a few cats into the bath water.

(Sorry for the double post, but I need the bump since this contest ends tonight.)

Gah, I went from a three way tie for 1st last night down to 3rd this morning. I know it's a bit of hassle if you have not registered with Renderosity before, but I only need 3 votes to regain the lead.

Honestly, this is more fun than most political elections. I actually have a vested interest in this one.
