Here's a blast from the past! After mentioning the idea on the Starfox thread, People seem interested in the possibility of a remake of the classic 8bit Spectrum/Commodore/Amstrad Codemasters 'Dizzy' games

I have started work today, and an early but quite nice screen-shot, along with some text explaining what's going on is on my website at:

http://www.kangaroo2.com

I have included two Dizzys in the picture, one with 3D shading, and on flat cell-shaded style 3D Dizzy. The former looks pretty impressive when moving I might stick with this one, let me know what you think. Both have black outlines around them, which I am sure is the right choice, Eg to update from the old sprite style to 3d with a slightly more funky 2d feel

So far I've got my Dizzy built, and doing his classic somersult jump. It looks sooo sweet in 3d

Next job for me to do is to animate his walking and static animations, and get him walking on a plain. Should be real easy, I hope!

If anyone has any ideas or comments to make PLEASE do, I fully intend to include source codes and demos soon for people to download. This is my first proper project in DBPro so I want to involve as many people as possible to get feedback and make it a real learning experience.

Cheers!

Hehe

I played the first Dizzy game in 1987 on the Spectrum! The last (and best) game was "Fantastic Dizzy" on Amiga/PC/MasterSystem/Genesis in 1993, unless you count the slightly poo "Excellent (?) Dizzy Collection" on GameGear in 1994 which contained a poor version of Prince of the Yolkfolk and 2 rubbish puzzle games.

Don't think I'm sad, I've been researching for the project :p lol

www.dizzyzone.org has every official and unnofficial Dizzy rom for every format! The ultimate in MY opinion is Fantastic Dizzy SMS use Meka WinDows to run it. Emu and Mirror ROM at www.smspower.org Everyone should play this, along with Cosmic Spacehead. - Not the shite Megadrive versions

Wow, I like the dizzy animation. I have managed to make my evil dizzy walk with animations. I didnt use any 3D program to animate it, I used just DB commands! Ive got a tech demo together. I love your dizzy! and that bounce game is really cool!
