'tis my birthday today! 15 years. We picked my PC up from the repair shop and I'm in the process of reinstalling Windows right now. Which means I might, tonight, finally have my computer back that's been broken for ~7 months. Wow.

We're opening presents tonight when my dad gets back. Right now I'm just glad to have my PC again (though it's in a different case!). My Radeon was cooked though . Oh well, all's well that ends well...

Thanks everyone !

Okay, I got...

Seagate Barracuda 120gb hard drive (YES!)
Wheel of Time books 6, 7, 9
Hexwood (Diana Wynne Jones)
Assassin's Quest, Royal Assassin (Robin Hobb)
Nice music CDs
Some nice knit presents from my little sisters
And I have 5.1 surround speakers and another great book on the way !

On the downside, my hard drive was totally screwed over. So I've lost a couple years' worth of darkbasic coding and collection and a vast collection of Morrowind mods... and a huge music collection and a lot of concept writing and stuff... well, I get a fresh start now with two drives (180gb!).

Cheers !

It's my birthday on the 13th May.

All I expect to get is a hug.

You pesky kids get it too good these days. When I was a lad ................. {drifts off into nostalgic reminiscences of 'the olden days'}

My dad got me socks for my birthday. It was because he got me tickets to see David Bowie at the SECC earlier in the year at £50 a pop. Happy B-day Mouse, have a good one.

@Mouse - I was just think about buying a Seagate Barracuda drive as I understand they are THE quietist drives from any manufacturer. Is this true?? I am after a quiter life in my bedroom as my PC sounds like a jet taking off. Just ordered a heatsink-pipe thingy to replace fan on GeForce4 Ti4600 card as that is what is making the most noise by far in my case, but was wondering if you noticed if drive is as quiet as everyone says.

Made BIG mistake of buying FSP Silent Solution Kit from PC World at £64. The power supply is noisier than one I already have. The case fan is silent and the CPU fan is now silent, but the sensor on it doesn't work properly! What a waste of money...

Boo!

My computer isn't all that quiet, but that's because of the CD-ROM drives, which are very loud. Even when they're both empty, however, I can hardly tell when the hard drive stops/starts spinning, and if there's music/sound playing, I can't tell at all. I certainly couldn't vouch on it being among the quietest made, but it's the quietest one I've ever used!

Yikes, sorry 'bout that. I got a new case+PSU when I brought my PC in for repairs (not free of course ) and the case fan and PSU are very quiet. It's just the CD-ROM drives that are the monsters. Yet another reason to make virtual CDs of everything.

Quote: "15 sucks compared to 14 but 16, oh thats another story"

Yeah, but you can start practice driving at 15 1/2 here, and besides that, it's 1 year closer to the other important ones .

Quote: "here it's 12"

I was under the impression it was 14 in several, but a very small percentage of, countries (take Germany), and 12 in I think only one or two. Do you actually live in one of them?
