I was just wondering - I know that ini files hold configuration settings for programs and games etc, but they seem to be no different than ordinary .txt files. Now it would be pointless having them just because the icon and extension are different, so what do they do that regular txt files dont?

Cheers

they are section, key-value pair based and read/written with win32api functions - and you can use em in dbp with our plugin

Cheers CattleRustler. I was aware of the plugin . OK I think I understand everything youve said. On the subject, what are Windows API functions? I know it probably sounds silly asking but Im totally clueless - I have heard of them, Im just unsure what it is exactly they do.

the win32api is all of windows function spread out across various windows dlls. Quite boring, quite verbose, and crappy to use. Back in the day it was all we had. Things are finally changing. Enter .NET.

Have a look at this codebase entry it's a collection of dbpro functions that use the api to read/write .ini files.
