Good news for all Caligari fans. You can now download GameSpace Light for free. It's basically a full version of Gamespace 1.5, with the exception of a few model formats removed(.x is still there), and you can only create models up to 650 polygons.

Still not a bad deal if you're interested in this tool.

As for me, I'm enjoying it very much and this should be helpful for all newcomers to the 3D world looking to invest in one of caligari's tools.

Heh, Caligari always e-mails me as soon as there offer hits.

This is really a good oppurtunity for newcomers to take advantage of. Most newcomers to the 3D world won't need more than 650 polygons to begin with. If they like it, then they can spend the extra $$$ to buy GameSpace. Personally, this was a great way for me to test out Gamespace to see its compatibility with DBP.

hhhmmm...that's funny becuase i downloaded it awhile ago and i never saw anywhere that you could make models only up to 650 polys.
650 polys! ....oh well...

and with that compo that caligari is doing you can enter with gamespace light....but i think it would be hard to win with a 650 poly model

BONUS!!!!

how about saving out the whole scene to X format, that gives you 5000 polys to play with.
even this apparently limited version of GS will proove most usefull to the likes of myself. as i make arcadie type stuff and poly counts tend to be quite low anyway, so i'll never have to buy the full thing anyway!!!!

cheerz caligari, nice one!!

now if you don't mind, i'm off to install and test said APP.

regards, geecee3

There is no limit of poly when you make the model
but when you want to save the model you have to keep it under 650.

Right, this software ROCKS!!!

everyone with half a braincell should ditch mikpap coz that's what it is. This is FREE and kicks the arse of everything else there is for FREE.

Combine this app with a good paint proggie and you have EVERYTHING you need to make kick ass fully animated models with. and the UV slice tool is fairly nice to boot.

i found no subdiv control depth, you use layers of subs, which is quite a cool feature.

All in all, like I said, IT ROCKS. DOWNLOAD IT NOW!! I reckon you will be fairly nifty at 3d in a couple of weeks using this software, and the so-called limit on polycount is not a limit as such, as a game modeller you should be able to make just about anything in 650 polys (the actual number of polys should have been a more sensible number, it's pretty difficult to make a 650 poly object using subs!) the 5000 poly limit on SCENE files is not a prob either, after all were talking LOW POLY modelling here!!
I am going to use it to make a simple character model which I will post images of, and link the model from my site in this thread.

GET IT BEFORE THEY REALIZE THAT BY GIVING IT AWAY FREE, MOST OF US WILL NEVER NEED TO PURCHASE THE FULL MODELLER FOR MAKING X OBJECTS.

I GOT MINE! YOU GOT YOURZ?

i like gmax's interface alot better....but at least this has good exporting

one tool that i especially miss from gmax though is the "chamfer" tool, it lets you split a edge into 2 edges and choose how far apart they are.

no doubt, darkwing. I have tried Gmax and found it to be too much like 3DSmax and I HATE MAX, but I know people who thing it's quite groovy. the ULTIMATE subdiv modeller is MAYA but for what I need it for, the price is a bit toooooooooooooo steeeeeeeeeeep!

if you can use truespace, you can use this.

Man, I'm in love with gamespace, I just made a 640 poly character mesh in about 20 mins, ok it's not human, but it's rather groovy, In a hippy mellow sense of the word.

i'll post it once I texture and bone the mesh, OOOOOOOh!! nice new UV toolz for me to play with!!! woooohoooo.

found a few quirks, but nothing serious, the boning toolz are a behave slightly different from ik linking toolz in TS 3.2.

but after a couple of hours playing around i got this far!!

initially the mesh kept flipping when i was boning it. the mesh itself was a doddle to make using the subdiv toolz.

Is there a Commercial license for Gamespace Light?

I've just used Gamespace Light and it says you cannot save an object that has more than 750 faces.

Does faces mean Polygons?

Thanks,

I don't want to spend my time learning how it works if GS light isn't able to export in .x format (or a DBPro compatible one).
I hope that the bug will be quickly repared!
This apart GSlight seems to be a very good tool...

No, before installing the patch, the .x file exported only the header and the matrix transformation. Now it export the entire mesh , but when I load it in DBPro , the vertexs are not well positionned Is this just for me , or perhaps I made an error or the patch isn't working...

It works fine with classic, but it doesn't seem to load properly in pro (trial version).
