on DBDN i noticed the rather obscene waiting periods for FPSC and P6 (let's just say it's very possible neither will be out till next year). it came to me that TGC is doing way too many things with way too few people. they've got what, 4, 5 people on the team. 2 programmers. they're managing a big and ever-growing site, a very active forum, DBP, FPSC, media packs, DBP addons, etc. and things just aren't getting done.

they need help.

so....

should we see what we could do to help?

we're ALL sick of waiting for things to happen, but nobody's doing anything about it.

let's change that.

alright, give him the stick -- DON'T GIVE HIM THE STICK!!

Yes. ^^ The community should pull together to finish up some other stuff, so that we can get P6 sooner. ^_^

I wound't be bothered if they stuck to an update every six months or so. That would be time in between patch cycles for development and testing without impacting developers too much.

Well, you could always develop something in between patches instead of waiting. BTW, I am NOT part of your ALL. Just speak for your self.

@DrakeX

"let's change that"

Sure. I'd love to help out. Question is though, how? What exactly is it we could do to help out TGC?

I'm sure I could do a little coding for them. Maybe write some .libs in MASM for minor stuff like better string manipulation commands. Obviously not any thing major though.

I could do research for them on various topics. If its one thing I'm good at its digging up interesting info. I've been researching compilers lately so I could help lee out in that department.

The only other thing that I could think of that I could do for them is maybe be their technical writer. The help files could use some serious cleaning up and I'd be willing to work on them. I don't know how much time I could spend on them though.

Well, that's all I can think of. Any other suggestions? I like the idea of helping TGC out its just I think we are kind of limited in terms of what we can do.

There's a reason why software houses don't hire a whole bunch of new staff when they're in their crunch periods It would be more of a detriment for anyone to start from ground zero and help out.

I'm with Neophyte, I'd help but there's nothing we can do anyway. May as well just leave it as that.

Truer words have never been spoken.

We are releasing lots of things at the moment - but they're all third party titles (TreeMagik, giles, etc) that don't take up any time of the team other than mine to get the web sites done.

Lee and Mike work exclusively on FPSC and TGCO in parallel, but it's a very very big project and is taking a long time. The fruits of it will directly benefit all DBP users, as has always been the case.

We are already helping TGC by buying their products. The only wait now is for them to return the favour.

Instead of helping TGC, you can also help the community ... make many 3D models for free, sounds, sprites, ...
I'm sure many people will be happy (even TGC, because if there are many models available, it will be more easy to create good game. And if it's easy to create good games with that, they can sell more)
Maybe it's exagerated, but I'm sure it's a good idea.

make a great game, put the dbpro logo in it, let EA publish it and TGC goes $$ . not very likely but they could make a lot of money that way

how big is the TGC team anyway?

@Rich

"Lee and Mike work exclusively on FPSC and TGCO in parallel"

I know what FPSC is but I feel a bit foolish for not knowing what TGCO stands for.

What does that stand for? Is it some new product that I missed?

Heya, I'm already doing my part by making various tutorials. Thinking about compounding them all in a book, but I'm still considering doing that with all my other projects.

Plug-ins, tutorials, fan websites, or anything of that sort will surely help out TGC in one way or another. (Or staying off the forum for a week and try programming. )

A book? I hate book. Book is stupid.

You should. Idiot.

I know, we could all donate money to TGC (like that would help ).
