I've made a model in Wings3d, exported to 3DS and then used the DBC tools to convert the format to .X, however, when I load the model in DBC it comes up smooth shaded when I need to to show as flat shaded...

Is this a code thing or a problem with my model? I can't work it out and I've spent 7 hours trying!

I don't use Wings3D, but I imagine there are "weld" and "unweld" vertice tools. make sure you "unweld" all of the vertices in your model. This will make your model flat shaded.

you have to remember that sometimes your model looks flat-shaded in your modeller, but that's because you viewingin flat-shaded mode, and the model itself is actually smooth.

welding and un welding do not do the same thing as smoothing properly. Its messy and should be avoided. the .X format supports smoothing, your problem is with wings.

Thanks for the tips Turns out it was 'hard' and 'soft' option hidden deep within the menus...

Why don't they just use standard naming conventions!

Now I can see my battleship in the game... it's a start!
