Does Dark basic pro support pre textured 3d models ?

I ask because when I export an untextured model from 3dmax ( ver 6 ) I can load it in dbpro no bother.

When I export a model I have textured and try and load it the program will not run.

I do not get an error message, the program simply goes to start, the black screen comes up and then returns to the editor.

I am as new to 3dmax as I am to Darkbasic Pro so I may not even be texturing/exporting the models properly.

Any help and advice would be apreciated.

Thanks.

The current version of DarkBASIC Pro doesn't fully support .3ds files, I do believe. This might be why you can load untextured objects, but not pretextured objects.

One work-around would be to export untextured objects, but still with UV mapping, and then texture them manually with texture object. Of course, it still might not work!

The better solution would be to export the .3ds files to DirectX (.x) format. There's a few conversion tools available - I personally use the command-line driven CONV3DS.exe, but there's also a plugin for 3DSMax called Panda DirectX Exporter, that'll do it too.

And, of course, there's the really simple solution - wait until full .3ds support is back! It will be! Eventually!

Hope this helps!

in my experiences with 3dmax 5 i was able to import .3ds files untextured or texured with no problem, however, when in dbp the texured models werent textured at all.

i use that Pandasoft DirectX Exporter and it works fine for me (only drawback is dbp doesnt support multiple UVs on .x files)

Thanks guys.

Got the exporter.

At first it did the same but after fiddling with the options, I can now fully export and use my models.

Thanks.

A quick question.

Do models have hotspots or action points as such ?

Just when I rotate my model, it doesn't spin round it's axis like a sphere or whatever created from within db, it seems to rotate round it's left edge.

I dunno if this is a 3dmax or a db thing.

I'm sure I'll get used to this eventually.
LOL

Ah, someone from The Games Factory/Click and Play school, eh?

The only real hotspots a model has is it's pivot point, as well the pivot point of each individual limb. In my old 3DSMax4, you can change the pivot point of the limbs by going to the hierarchy tab and then selecting Affect Pivot Only, while the pivot point for the object (the important one, in your case, I think), is the coordinates 0, 0, 0 in Max. Basically, you want your object completely centred in the scene.

Hope this helps!

LOL, does it show ?

MMF is my 2d tool of choice but feel the need to branch to 3d and darkbasic pro seems the daddy for that.

I'll give that a go mate, cheers.
