ya, you just paint 2 skins based on the same UV map. Then in darkbasic you re-texture the model.

you don't understand!!
in a 3d models , there is 3 parts
texture
polygons
bones

bones are the structure of the model , when you make them move , the
model moves , their are used to animate characters

polygons are a bunch of faces that are moved according to the bones theiy are linked

textures are the only thing you see of the model in games . they
are deformed at the screen according to the polygons.

to fit on the polygons , texture are 'mapped' onto faces (polygons)
by UVW coordinates .

so now you must understand ( i hope ) how its working , you make a model , you anim it with bones , its ok .
then , you paint two textures , one with tonyhawk clothes and face , and one with your face and your clothes , and you use that texture on the polygons .

did you catched all ?

A program is sensed to be a conventional mean to give orders to a computer and not being obscure, weird, and full of traps ,that is closer to magic stuff (Dave Small).

you dont know anything about 3d but you have max?

Anyway, this is not a forum for learning the basics of 3dsmax. There are other websites set up for exactly that and Max comes with plenty of help files.
